Good value for 65 quid this close to Durham. This is a locals pub in an old industrial area on the outskirts of Durham. I wouldn't fancy walking around the area late at night, but there are more retail parks within a 2 minute walk than you could ever wish for and a McDonalds next door. Belmont Park & Ride for the City is a 5 minute drive away. Prince Bishop's parking in the centre of the city is a 10 minute drive. Car parking at the hotel is very limited, but OK. Rooms are basic, a little bit 80's in décor, but bed linen and towels (white) are very clean, TV and Wi-Fi work perfectly, shower is fine with loads of hot water. Loads of coffee and tea in the room, not the usual skimpy one sachet of coffee and 3 tiny sugar sachets. Breakfast excellent - in the function room, just like it used to be. Spotless cutlery and flatware, toast in a rack, generous breakfast, well cooked, and I'm sure that you could eat a whole loaf of toast and drink a gallon of coffee if you wanted to. I was in the very strange situation of going back to the North East for a wedding and funeral within two days. The Landlord very kindly let me come back a long time after checkout to change into my funeral suit in the hotel, gratis. Under normal circumstances, I would have spent the night of my stay in the bar and I'm sure I would have met some very interesting people. If want to experience what the North East was was like 30 years ago, with great but very reserved hospitality, stay here. If you want a sterile experience with no locals, go to a chain hotel.

It's a local pub right on the main road, and being very honest, in quite a rough area, but I grew up very close to here, so exactly what I expected. There might be some noise from the road and the bar at night, but I'm a heavy sleeper. If there were more than 3 guests with cars, you may struggle to park, but I've got a feeling that the Landlord would be able to sort something out.

Friendly welcome, parking available on site. Room was standard size for a single, nothing luxurious but absolutely fine for an overnight stay. Very good cooked breakfast. Although the rooms are downstairs and the Gilesgate Moor is a traditional pub, I found it very quiet and enjoyed a pint in the bar!

As previous reviewers have commented, the location is nothing special, right next to a retail park, but it is perfectly possible to walk into the centre of Durham in about 30 -35 minutes. Easy walk, no crossing main roads. It is also pretty quiet

Very easy to reach on the edge of Durham. Walkable to town centre if mobile. Could use Park and Ride close by. Supermarkets with fuel, other garages within 200mt, and fast food outlets within 100 mt. Parking outside a bit limited but plenty of room opposite. Great range of beers in bar very well priced, but no evening meals. Wendy and Graham very friendly and helpful went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Breakfast first rate 😋 Really likely that we will use again. 👍👌 Loved it.

At first site on an industrial estate. Did grow on me over the week, especially when you look at what is near by.

Excellent value for money with a very delicious and freshly cooked full english breakfast. Great staff. Room was tiny and basic but adequate for the night. Parking directly outside the front door.

The accommodation was noisy. Someone took a long shower in the room next door around midnight. Thin walls so I felt I had the shower with them. The immediate surrounding area to the hotel was dreary but it was so close to the centre that I would definitely stay again.

Lovely clean room, quiet and really well located. 30 minute walk to the city centre, but a regular bus service and 5 minutes in a taxi. Breakfast between 7 and 8 am. But if you ask they will open a little early or make you up something up to take away with you. There is a small bar menu and they do a very nice pizza, but many of the well known chains and supermarkets are across the road, literally!!! My room had a shared bathroom, but it wasn't an issue for me and it was always cleaned daily. It is a proper local pub, so no loud music, lots of conversation, absolutely no trouble, and the staff were super helpful and friendly. You must have the full English breakfast if you have the time as it lives ups to it reputation. Would stay here again.

Nothing, for me it was spot on.

Great location: it has Tesco extra a few meters and 24-hours Mc Donalds accross the road. I stayed only 2 nights and I couldn't take so much advantage of the services, but I can say that the bar looks wonderful and the host was super kind and helpful. The room was fine, fully equipped and the bathroom was very clean. Do not miss breakfast! I think it's the best English breakfats experience I had druing my stay in in the UK.

Perfect place for us. After a short walk past a few big shops there's a very nice walk into the city. It's flat with a decent path and an easy distance. Staff lovely and helpful. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, nice breakfast. Excellent value.

Location is unusual as it's opposite a huge Tesco and with a Macdonald's, TK Max as Range. To be fair, it didn't bother us at all as we knew what to expect before we arrived. Road was a bit noisy with traffic early evening but I slept well. Neither of these would put me off going back. Everything else was spot on.

Clean, warm, comfy, quiet and with a full English breakfast. Parking and good WiFi. There is a bar where you will find friendly locals and an experience of great northern hospitality. It is incredible on value and I would definitely stay again.

The hotel is within walking distance of the city but it is hilly. This is not a problem as there is public transport one minute from the front door. The walk into the city downhill is easy and pleasant.

Everything met or exceeded expectations with the added bonus of, according to the booking Continental breakfast was included, when in fact you could have Full English instead and the bacon/sausage were quality and not commercially obtained. There was nothing, no much trouble for any of the staff, special praise for the morning staff. Though it is situated in an industrial area road noise was minimal.

Shower did not drain quickly enough. There is either an airlock in the water system or an appliance on the system that causes a strange noise when activated late at night or early in the morning.

First, I have to say that the breakfast was one of the best that we had on our trip. It was so wonderfully prepared, you could tell that the chef knew what she was doing! The host was friendly and helpful. The room fulfilled our needs. Having a closet was a feature that was missing in some of the other B&Bs we stayed at - and we really needed it. Also, the shower was wonderful - the water was hot and the water pressure was great. Overall, we were happy to find such a good B&B that was reasonably priced during 'graduation week' at Durham University.

The bathroom was rather chilly at night.
