The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. My wife has gluten and dairy intolerances and the chef, Fabio, was super helpful. He was able to accommodate and change items on the menu as everything is made fresh. The food in the evening was exceptional. If you’re wanting to sit in the cosy room I would grab a seat early as it was full by the time we had finished dinner. Breakfast was lovely too. Again, accommodating dietary needs without fuss. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy time in Durham and neighbouring areas. Thanks again to all the staff. We would definitely stay again!

One tiny thing to point out, the music in the evening was interrupted every now and again by spotify ads. They may want to pay for premium ;) There was also quite a loud group in the conservatory in the evening, but not the hotels fault by any means.

Country village location and ambience. Premium double was quite spacious and well appointed, except for one thing:- only one easy chair between the two of us Beautiful old building in equally beautiful green wooded setting. Room & bathroom spotlessly clean. Comfortable bed spacious shower. Although not mentioned in booking information, an excellent Full English Breakfast was available on request. Restaurant setting really lovely with the lawned garden with attractive mature trees. Large Car Park, so plenty of room to park safely.

With two guests sharing a room it would have been nice to each have an easy chair to sit in when watching TV. After two requests to reception the Asst Manager brought us a second easy chair. Cannot really fault anything else.

Hotel is a grand old manor house and seems to have been recently refurbished. It's located out of town so you definitely need a car but was only around 15 minutes from Durham city, so it worked out well. Some lovely walks around the hotel - turn left when you leave and just past the lovely old Pittington Church are some public footpaths across the fields. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, the continental breakfast was pretty good too. Rooms were fine, nice strong shower with easily controlled temperature.

Rooms were pretty good though could have done with one or two extra touches. Not much table space and walls were pretty thin - not the hotel's fault but we had a loud snorer next to us and I could hear him all night. Then we had a heavy footed chap so could hear him moving around. Higher rooms were stuffy - no major issue but as we had the window open, we were kept awake by people chatting on the tables in the garden.

Great room well appointed and very quiet. Very confy bed and warm room. Great bathroom. Easy to find and excellent car parking. This is a real gem of a find Brilliant staff, very welcoming and convivial. A real well sorted bar. Food was excellent with a wide choice and so well prpared and presented. Restaurant looks magical with all the lights on. This is a real feel good venue. The house itself is a treat just go around the rooms and see what's there. We got a taxi to and from Durham Cathedral which was just outstanding.

Nothing it was perfect.

Unfortunately we arrived on a wet n dreary day earlier than planned.A group of 11 of us.Our rooms were not ready..Reception asked us to go into the bar area, which was decorated beautifully. 30 mins later our rooms where ready.Small bathroom, but fit for purpose, nice comfy bed, lovely linen,Very clean,TV and a kettle. We couldn't find the tea n coffee, they are in a box underneath the kettle stand.(found out after asking reception for some teabags)The surroundings are amazing..but the staff are Exceptional. Friendly, knowledgeable with a good sense of humour.

The hidden tea n coffee.

Lovely hotel in a quiet country location, but just 15 minutes outside of Durham. The staff made you feel very at home. The room was lovely and the bed super comfy. Great view onto the lawns. Food was good. Loved that our cooked breakfast came out piping hot. Loved the garden and we enjoyed sitting out as the weather was great during our stay.

We booked a cosy room. The bedroom size was great but the bathroom was small and if on the large size like me, it was a squeeze to sit on the toilet. Also entering the shower was a squeeze> Not sure if it was down to the room we booked

From arriving everyone was so friendly. Our room was very spacious, marvelous view over the beautiful grounds, quiet and the bed really comfortable. Breakfast the following morning was fantastic. There was a fab little stroll to the local church with bridle way signs that we didn't have time to explore. Next time we will though because we will be back!!!

There was no socket by the table to plug the kettle in so we used the one by the bed. Such a little problem we never mentioned it whilst we were there!

Overall our stay was excellent. I was there with my 16 year old daughter and she didn't complain once - which is extremely rare! Great staff, lovely atmosphere and fabulous breakfasts

Some might say that it's a little faded around the edges but that would be extremely harsh. In a time when generic, bland hotel chains and rooms abound Durham 61 has charm and character. Bathroom was recently updated, beds comfortable and common area downstairs lovely for a drink in the evening

The staff were amazing- from the lady on reception who sorted us out a meal that wasn't on the menu, to the bar staff who made us feel welcome on the evening. Everyone was friendly. The property is very close to the university sports complex which was brilliant. Accommodation had a lovely country manor feeling and the beds super comfy. Food lovely and breakfast was amazing. Car park safe and the price was great.

Our room was above the bar so a bit noisy in the early evening but it was quiet when we needed to sleep

Almost the first, fine, warm day on our four week tour and we were able to eat dinner at one of the tables on the lawn, what a pleasure. Our meal was well cooked and the staff were attentive and polite. The beer was cold and refreshing. We had a cooked breakfast in doors with the same high level of service. Our room was newly refurbished and spacious and there was an equally large bathroom with a walk in shower. No problem with parking Reception welcoming and very helpful.
