Close to Durham City centre and all the outskirts retail parks. Rooms were clean, well maintained and quiet. Good shower and Elemis shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand wash provided in dispensers. Spa in the next building was a bonus. The £25 Spa Day Pass is discounted to £10 per stay per guest if purchased at the Hotel Reception. Facilities include pool, sauna, steam, jacuzzi and changing rooms equipped with lockers, great showers and swimsuit wringers and ‘proper’ hairdryers.

The toilet on the Ground Floor by Reception did not create a good first impression. The bin was overflowing and it needed a clean. Keycard failed 4 times which required returning back down to Reception each time and delayed accessing our room upon check in. It transpired that there was an issue with the battery keycard slot. Shampoo/body wash in the Spa shower was a combined product. Was expecting better of a Bannatyne Spa.

Great value hotel. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are a good size, clean and very comfortable. Asked for a ground floor room that was easily accessible due to disability and was allocated a room so close to the main reception that was great! Used the leisure centre this visit for breakfast and really impressed with the choice/cost. But also really like the bar in the reception as there’s enough choice of drinks/snacks and a comfortable seating area. Have stayed here many times now for Uni drop off/pick up and will return. Thank you so much for another lovely stay.

The shower needs a grab handle as it’s dangerously slippery especially if you have any mobility issues or elderly.

The hotel and staff were brilliant!!!

The spa cafe!! The service was appalling. On the Saturday morning there was only 1 staff member on..understandly slow service. However on the Sunday morning there were 3 staff on...my order was forgotten about and eventually came an hour later. I am diabetic and have to eat..I pointed out I was feeling v unwell but still had to wait. On what I assume is Durhams busiest wkend, you would normally assume there would be adequate staffing levels at least!!

We really enjoyed our visit to Durham. The hotel was great, comfy bed, clean room/bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities.... all you need for good break. It was a 35-40 minute walk from the centre of Durham, but as we do a lot of walking anyway that didnt phase us, we cut through a local park area and down the river - it was good to see more of Durham! For those who dont enjoy so much of a walk there is a bus stop on the main road near to the hotel and buses were coming along every 15 minutes of so. Breakfast isnt served in the hotel building, but across the car park in the sports/spa/leisue centre. There was a good breadfast selection but we opted for the full English which was lovely. For those of you wanting to use the leisure facilites there is a pool, gym rooms and spa. I think it was £10 for the duration of our stay to use these facilities but we didnt bother as we were out all day after breakfast. Durham is lovely, and there is something for everyone. The beautiful cathedral and castle, lots of eateries, traditional pubs, lively bars and river walks. Not far from Durham is the Beamish - The Living Museum of the North set in 350 acres - a must see.

I honestly cannot think of anything we didnt like.

The service was excellent and the staff were very nice and accommodating to all our requests. The room was nice and comfortable with a large double bed. The bar also had a nice range of drinks at reasonable prices. The room price was also very affordable. Bus stop nearby was useful to travel into the centre of Durham. I would've liked to visit the spa but time did not allow unfortunately.

It would have been nice to have some air conditioning as we had to keep the windows fully open after checking in before coming back in the late evening or it would've been too hot. The toilet was also difficult to flush.

Very clean hotel and great to have parking, ideal location. Good idea to have spa included too.

I booked this for my parents and they were not able to eat at the restaurant. They asked the staff when the restaurant opened, however they were not given clear opening times so they decided to check for themselves but by the time they eventually got there it was closed - what a shame! I just wish there was clearer communication, it would have saved my parents time looking for a meal somewhere else and would have allowed them to spend more time together…

Bar area in the reception was fantastic. It was lovely to be able to get a drink and sit down for a comfy chat before bedtime. The staff were amazing too. Very helpful.

Our room was lacking bedside lights. We only had main light in bedroom and a couple of spotlights above the bed..not very romantic if you wanted mood lighting! No light round mirror on vanity unit. Our room faced the main road and didn't get much sun so extra lighting would have been helpful when doing hair. Can't fault the cleanliness. It was just lighting that was below standard

The bed was comfortable and huge. The room was spacious. Lovely toiletries and plenty of them. The walk-in shower was a bonus..no stepping into a narrow bath for a shower. Lots of space to put things. Large towels and plenty of them. Will revisit if ever in the area.

Unfortunately it wasn't till the morning I noticed the bedside table had a very sticky substance on it and hadn't been cleaned. My phone case was covered. But this was the only downside. If it hadn't been there I would have given straight 10s.

February 2024

We arrived on 22nd Feb (the man who was on reception was so helpful and friendly so thank you) I was given the keys to hotel earlier and allowed me to check in early due to this occasion being for my partners birthday. We cleaned up before leaving. They accepted a hotel set up. Hotel was fresh and clean matched the photos on website.

The cafe in health club was small and more of a sociable area not necessarily somewhere to have a meal but this was understandable as it was a health club and more for somewhere to sit and take a break.

Larger room and bed than the average. Not including breakfast but having breakfast available is very welcome. Having a pool and sauna available is just brilliant, especially for such a reasonable price. I like the way that the cleaners only tidy up if you hang a notice on your door.

Duncan may have had something to say about room detailing. The bathroom looked nice enough but functionally was only just hanging in there. Phone signal in the room was weak.
