Great loc Perfect for my purposes. The real deal old English pub, friendly and helpful staff. Stunning green village with second pub and cafe in garden centre. Easy bus accesd to Durham itself. Nice bar and resttaurant serving nice food.

The room was serviceable, comfortable and clean with nice range of free hot beverages. Could have done with a couple of hooks in the bathroom for clothes and towels to hang on. Continental breakfast very nice on 2 mornings Sunday (apart from one Danish pastry that had mould on) and Tuesday but on Monday a bit lacking in variety of fresh fruit. But I am a bit pbsesdive abput a banana with my meuslli.

Lovely friendly staff who couldn't have been more helpful. It's much more accessible than it looks and Ubers into Durham are cheap and easy to get. There's a lovely family pub vibe and the food is fresh and delicious. Our room was large and clean and comfortable. Although the rooms are above the pub it's not noisy at all, and there is private access if the pub is shut.

More a word of warning - the stairs are very steep if there are any mobility issues/elderly guests in your party. It wasn't a problem for us but might be for some.

Very nice country pub in a lovely village. Easy access to Durham on the bus ( stop outside pub ) only 10 mins into town . There is a riverside walk to if you fancy a stroll along the river Weir. There is plenty of on street parking and it’s not on the main road so no worries when you leave it parked over night. The 7 stars has a cosy lounge , nice selection of beers etc , food is available if you want to dine in or just a snack. Rooms are clean, plenty tea and coffee with biscuits . TV and Wi-Fi fine and bed pretty comfy. Continental breakfast was perfect nice coffee , choice of cereal breads , fruit and yogurt. For £100 a night very good value and easy access Durham centre .

Lovely rooms in a great location with the river just a couple of minutes walk away (we walked into Durham along the river and it was beautiful) Our family room was effectively a suite of two rooms plus a bathroom with a huge walk in shower. Our 15 year old daughter said the sofa bed in the 2nd part of the room wasn't the most comfortable bed, but it was perfectly adequate for a one night stay. Lovely continental breakfast included in the price and plenty of free on-street parking just outside the pub Very easy booking process through Booking.com and a great price of £80 for the night. Couldn't beat that 😁

Nothing!

The staff/owners were very welcoming and went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed. We arrived late due to traffic hold ups and although they had stopped serving food they managed to put together a meal for our 18 year old son, we were so grateful! thank you. Ideal location for us coming to visit the university. We left our car parked by the pub and walked into Durham. A flat, pleasant walk. Overall great value for money and fantastic hospitality!

breakfast is continental, cereal, toast, pastries and yogurt. Ideal if you just want a quick breakfast option but a wider selection would be nice. However, excellent value for the price of the room so can’t really put it as a complaint.

A sense of nostalgia. This was a pub which we frequented a lot when we lived in the Durham area. The village is so attractive and 50 years ago we spent at least two New Year nights drinking in the bar. So it was a memories style trip and came up trumps.

It was a continental style breakfast only, which I think is unusual in the UK. Usually there are both, English breakfast styles and continental styles as choices. I missed my cooked breakfast. The room was a little old fashioned and lacking in perfect comfort.

Staff is absolutely fantastic, kind and helpful! The location is nice because it is outside of Durham and you can take a bus into the town very easily. The rooms are spacious, cute and clean, lovely atmosphere overall. The food is also really nice!

If you are noise or light sensitive, you will not sleep well in this pub. Unfortunately I had a terrible night because of both reasons, you can still read a book with the curtains shut and if you are in a room by the road, you will hear every single car driving by this main road. Not ideal if you really need to rest. No car park provided but there are some spaces in the street behind the pub so not a big issue.

This hotel is far easier to get to than it appears, the cost-saving compared to the in-town hotels is definitely worth considering as the bus journey from town to the hotel is less than 10 mins, the busses are running every 20 mins, the cost is £2 per journey. The bus stop is right next to the hotel, every bus that starts with 5 e.g. 55, 57, 56 etc goes there. I paid £150 for 2 nights during graduation week, in -town hotels were over £300 per night during this week. The food is very good and the service friendly.

Breakfast pastries were from a freezer and not fresh

big room, 2 beds. Very helpful staff. On road parking outside the pub. Walking distance of the university campus. Breakfast was "all you can eat" continental, so quick and easy.

the road is busy and I could.hear traffic noise for a lot of the night. I would have preferred a hot breakfast option - continental breakfast was bread (+toaster), pastries (individually wrapped, no way to heat except toaster), cereals (but none my son liked, he eats granola), fresh fruit (apples, bananas, pears, etc) and coffee/tea/juice.

The property is an old inn, that has been refurbished in a way that is sympathetic to its character, the bedrooms are basic, comfortable but maybe in need of some upgrading, this did not spoil the stay as the price paid reflected this. The staff are friendly and attentive, without being intrusive and all our requests were met without fuss. The main plus point about this accommodation has to be the food offered, it is of a very high quality, equal to a high end restaurant. we stayed 3 nights and ate there every night sampling a wide range from the menu, everything was well cooked and presented to a high standard. The breakfast was also acceptable, it was continental type with plenty of choice. The hotel is within easy distance from the centre of Durham, 6 minutes drive or a nice walk along the river. A gem of a hotel, will be returning and would highly recommend 😀

The bedrooms could be upgraded a little.
