Staff were very helpful with everything. They were all very friendly, nothing was too much trouble and they all worked so hard.

I had a cold poached egg twice! I tried to stay away from all the dogs by sitting at table no 6, as I have an allergy to dogs, I went into the bar area to have a drink there was a very well behaved dog laying across the walk way and then on the seating while the owners took selfies with it.

Great location for seeing Durham. So lovely to be able to go for great walks from the doorstep.

Although it was a single my room and en suite bathroom were very spacious. The location right next to a wooded area and withing sight of the famous viaduct was attractive. It was a little further out from the centre than some hotels, but it was handy for the station and Durham is so compact a city that nowhere is too far. It's nice to walk. The staff were friendly, efficient and available at all times. The food was so good that I ate breakfast (cooked to order) and dinner there every day and had I been staying longer I'd have worked my way right through the menu. Almost the best thing was how relaxed and comfortable the hotel was - I'd go as far as to say that I've never stayed anywhere quite that easy to be in. It felt as near to home (with service) as a hotel is ever likely to.

Actually nothing that was under the hotel's control. My room did get rather hot and stuffy when the sun shone directly into it, in the late afternoon. I'm not going to be the guy who complains about sunshine in England! I think there may have been an electric fan in the wardrobe too.

Everything was lovely. I asked for a quiet room and we got one; it also gave a view of the woods behind the hotel. In addition, the room was warm and spacious with a very comfortable bed. The menu was varied enough for 3 nights or more and the buffet breakfasts plentiful. The cooked breakfast dishes were nicely cooked and presented. There was little or no delay in service and we didn't feel 'rushed' at any of the meals. I asked for a light bulb to be changed as it was very dim and flickered and this had been seen to by the time we got back in the evening. The location of the hotel is just right being on the fringe of the main tourist area but totally walkable from the train station (10-15 minutes) in one direction and into town in the other. It is in a cul de sac with Flass Vale woods behind and therefore quiet. We liked the ambience of the whole place inside and out.

Only very small observations which didn't impact all that adversely on our stay: The decor is a little dated and could do with a face-lift; our shower room had no radiator so was a little chilly when getting out of the shower (though I admit I am a wimp and it was 4 degrees C outside); occasionally one or two components of some meals were a little on the cool side as if they'd been kept waiting - eg, mushy peas/poached eggs; the walk into town is not great with a couple of very busy roads to cross and no pedestrian crossings - totally not the hotel's fault of course!

Excellent location and great to have parking available on site. The check in and out was very easy, the staff throughout were polite, helpful and efficient including the breakfast staff. The room was beautifully clean and comfortable, with plenty of plug sockets for charging devices. The hotel bar and restaurant was spacious and welcoming. I didn't stay long enough to try the restaurant but the menu looked delicious. In the morning, I thoroughly enjoyed at a leisurely pace the generous breakfast especially the filter coffee

The window of my room was at one end which meant the other end of the room was rather dark; a lamp at this end would have been good but this is only a minor point in an otherwise nice room.

This Inn is a great place to stay the night. It's located slightly outside the center (10 minutes' walk). The room was clean and comfortable and the inclusive breakfast had an extensive range of options. However, the dinner at the lodge was one of extremes. The thick-cut fries were golden and crispy and the chicken burger was unique with great flavor combinations. However, the chef's recommendation (a pear-cinnamon-plumb crumble) for dessert was extremely disappointing as the 'crumble' consisted of crumbles pre-made biscuits and not homemade and freshly baked to order as one would expect for a chef's recommendation.

The hotel was really handy for the centre of Durham and it was a pleasant walk into the town centre. The evening meal we purchased at the hotel was very good and the bar staff were very helpful and friendly. We also liked the special offer they had on cocktails and the bar area was very nice and comfortable. There was also adequate Car Parking at the hotel.

The full cooked breakfast that we were served was a bit dried up and it was missing some of the items that we should have received on our plates we didn’t realise this until we saw what other people were receiving on their plates and it was too late to ask about it . The bedroom wasn’t very big and the shower room was tiny there was hardly any room at all to get undressed in there. The room wasn’t soundproofed as I was awoken through the night by someone from the adjacent bedroom snoring loudly and I couldn’t get back to sleep. The room was also extremely warm and we couldn’t open the window.

The location is perfect for a short 10 to 15 minute walk into the centre and the cathedral. Close to the railway station approximately 10 minute walk and maybe 5 minutes to the bus station. There is a slight uphill walk to the railway station but good access to all amenities. The hotel itself is in a quiet location and has a relaxed feel to it. The staff are excellent. Everyone was welcoming, friendly and pleasant, we will certainly use this hotel when staying in the area.

The rooms may not suit all tastes regarding decoration but we found the rooms to be comfortable and adequate for our needs. There was nothing not to like as far as we were concerned.

Lovely food and service. Very helpful relaxed and friendly staff. And everything you could need for a short break. Breakfast was buffet style s much as you want. Coffee on tap. And tea. Staff keen to get you anything little extra or change the menu slightly due to food sensitivity. Breakfast beautifully cooked. Menu prices average. I found the atmosphere good. Jolly lot of locals came in to eat in the evenings. Perfect short walk to town to see anything you want in Durham like Cathedral and sights. And I slept like a log. Very quiet at night.

The breakfast in the hotel was very nice and there was plenty of choice and lots to eat. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but there was an issue with cleaning of our room. This problem was resolved quickly and easily by the landlady who apologised and allowed us £20 off our bill. It was very nice to see that when we raised the problem with the cleaning of our bedroom she immediately gave us the £20 refund. Also the hotel is very well placed so that you could easily walk into the centre of Durham to join in the Christmas festivities or do any shopping that you needed to do. Two other points : the beds were very comfortable and once the radiator in the room had been switched on the room became nice and cosy

The cleaner didn't make our beds and only put new biscuits and clean towels in our bedroom. Also we couldn't see where she had done any cleaning of the washbasin or toilet. This was the issue that we raised with the landlady and for which she gave us a £20 refund off our bill.
