The room was clean, modern, and satisfactory. I didn't turn on the TV, but everything seemed to work. The reception desk was polite and prompt and helpful. There is masses of on-site parking, and the hotel is very close to the Toby Carvery next door.

The hotel was good. Unfortunately, I didn't rate highly the Toby Carvery - the meat was stringy and tough on one occasion, and everything was under-seasoned. The breakfast, however, is good value. I normally wouldn't mind if the restaurant isn't much good for dinner- but there are no other dining options close by. This means if you've come back to the hotel after a long day's work, you've got only convenient mediocrity before you.

Spacious rooms and well decorated. The staff was very friendly. The food could be better. They ran out food and most dishes were not available on the menu. The person behind the buffet counter was a bit rude and the meats were certainly under done. I saw many guests leaving a lot of food on their plates. The buffet too was out items listed. Toby needs to seriously look at their food preparations. I think quality is what they need to improve versus the quantity. Breakfast too can include breakfast cereals, some fruit, cheese etc.

Came to Exeter to visit the university for an open day with my son. Having driven from London we arrived rather late. The staff greeted us with a smile. The room was clean, much needed shower was hot, toiletries, tea and coffee facilities in the room. The next day we went down for breakfast. Everything was fresh and served/ kept hot. Excellent for a base Very reasonable, staff were accommodating the next morning, no extra charge to leave the car there for the day. Came back had a good lunch before our drive back to London. Will be visiting again.

The family room was bigger than we expected. Even with a travel cot set up (supplied by hotel) there was still plenty of space with a large wardrobe, sofa & desk. The room was very clean & comfortable, with a large king size bed. The staff were lovely & helpful, check in & out was a breeze. Plenty of parking & great location. Nice & quiet with great amenities nearby (including obvious Toby Carvery). Would definitely stay again.

Some construction work being done at the time to the restaurant meant we couldn’t have dinner. We weren’t aware of this until we checked in. Shame, but plenty of takeaway options nearby in Exeter.

We asked to move rooms as the first room we were given had a lot of traffic noise from the nearby road. They gave us a quieter room which included a free upgrade as no other rooms available.

The arrangements for breakfast for hotel guests could be better. As it was a carvery open for breakfast, hotel guests have to queue with all the restaurant guests for breakfast. Also the area assigned for hotel guests is on the opposite side of the restaurant to the breakfast buffet. We would have thought it would be possible to assign one of the conference rooms for hotel guests to breakfast in with cereals, juice, tea, coffee, etc. A heads up on check-in about how busy the breakfast gets would have been appreciated.

The warmth of welcome, and the friendliness of the staff throughout. Our room was spotlessly clean, comfortably furnished and good value for money. There were sufficient power points for electrical equipment, and lights accessible from the bed. The housekeeping staff obviously take a lot of trouble over the rooms, which on first glance seem a little dated in decor and fittings. A big plus was hot water enough to shower with even at 11.00 pm at night, sometimes an issue at other motel outlets. A very helpful member of staff at the breakfast reception, whose name I asked, perhaps Villi? and the abundance of choice for breakfast. It was a tad crowded and noisy when we arrived, at 9.00 am but it did quietened down and the choice of items was good. Containers of items such as bacon and sausages were regularly replaced, and the Lavazza coffee was superb, again regularly replenished. We enjoyed our brief stay at the Exeter Toby/Innkeeper's Selection, and will be back later in the year.

Nothing really other than the squeakiness of the floorboards in our room. Impossible to tiptoe quietly to the loo in the middle of the night!

Very relaxing atmosphere in a simple country style hotel which offers all required for a short stay. The interior of the hotel is quite dated, the level of clearness was appropriate. Everything was simple and quite good for a money paid. Very spacious free parking is a big bonus.

It would be beneficial to have a small fridge in the room. Quality of Wi-Fi needs to be improved - it was not stable, each day we had to sign up for O2.

Our room was very comfortable and clean, with tea and coffee provided. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was easy. We will definitely stay here again.

We weren't keen on having to ask for cereals in the morning. It would have been nicer to help ourselves. Orange juice included with breakfast would be good too. The main thing we were not happy with was the lack of communication before our trip. I left messages on 2 consecutive days for someone to return my call to change my room requirements, but no-one returned my call. Once we were there, everything was good, but lack of communication beforehand was frustrating (Central reservations were unable to help with our problem, so advised us to speak to the hotel directly).

Everything exceeded our expectations. We were looking for a place for one night whilst we moved our son into his new home in Exeter. The superior room was large and extremely comfortable with all amenities - great shower too. As with all hotels that we have staying in lately there seems to be no provisions for a towel rail in the bathroom - I find this very odd. The carvery was great as always.

Lack of towel rails in the bathroom.

The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in, also the pillows were the most comfortable I've ever experienced including my own at home. The shower room was spotless with plenty of towels and the shower was excellent. Did the bed have a mattress topper?

I had to wait at least 10 minutes for someone to come to reception to check in despite ringing the call reception on the phone. Apparently the guy had left his phone/pager in the office and not on him. He did apologise profusely.
