The hotel is elegant and historic. The breakfast is great, with a wide range of selection. The hotel greeted me with welcome drink and cookies. Inside the room, the toilet is well-equipped with modern facilities. The staff is very friendly, and provided me with some facial tissues in my room when I needed them.

The single room is not small, so I expect there should be more shelves/hooks to leave my personal belongings (e.g. rucksack, jacket). The desk is too narrow/shallow, even for their own tea tray. It would be great if there is a small fridge to put one or two things in, but I won't push for it.

Location was perfect. The room.size was excellent, bed very comfortable and larger than a standard double. Room also had a separate sitting area with a very comfy settee and table. Large shower head so a very good refreshing shower. Good tea and coffee facilities. Room had a fridge, safe also provided with a robe and slippers. Breakfast self service with gluten free cereals on offer and alternative milks. Gluten free bread on request but available.

Very little drawer space, no facility to hang towels in the bathroom, so wet towels had to be left in the bath.

I was with a group of 9 girls for a Hen Weekend...I was very pleased with my single room. It was compact and had everything I required. The en suite was spot on, everything was very clean and the windows opened, a great bonus as far as I'm concerned! The staff were efficient and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. I thought the provision of orange water in the foyer was very good. The location of the Hotel straight opposite the Railway Station is spot on.

The only glitch was that my key card wouldn't work when I came back quite late in Saturday night which meant returning to the reception, however, a new card was produced quickly and the staff member was apologetic.

The staff went over and above to make our stay amazing. We booked for my partners birthday and from my communication with Rachel and Declan via messages and the service from I believe Callum on Reception, they went the extra mile. We love staying at the Rougemont, there isn’t a better hotel in Exeter for staff, prestige and character.

We did find service in Drakes to be slow, I’m unsure if the lady working the bar was new or just lacked confidence? She lacked product knowledge and seemed to be rather overwhelmed.

Very happy to find a lovely hotel so central, that also accepts dogs. Room was very comfortable, although we did get upgraded because of a problem with the booking. Staff were very nice and friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

When we arrived, the hotel had no record of our booking, so it was good that I had a paper copy of the receipt as well an online email exchange. The hotel blamed booking.com, but booking.com did confirm that they had actually spoken to the hotel to confirm the booking. I can understand the hotel charging extra to park if they need to hire spaces in a car park, but as we parked in the hotel premises, we were very surprised to be charged £12 for overnight parking at the hotel just for one night. When we've stayed at other Mercure hotels, parking has been free. We were also told it was £15 per night for a dog, but other Mercure hotels charge £15 per stay, not per night. We would like to have eaten there, but there was minimal choice for vegetarians.

The location is ideal if you are travelling to Exeter Central Station or want to go out in the town centre in the evening. The hotel has a lot of character and is perfectly clean and comfortable, although there are shabby spots. The staff were all friendly and helpful. There is a large comfortable lobby and a very nice bar. Breakfast was standard and perfectly acceptable. I think this is a great choice if you want character and location with the high standards of the chain (Accor).

Nothing serious but there are some odd spots - the panel on our bath, a cubicle door in the ladies- where I was surprised damage hadn't been repaired.

Easy to find and friendly staff. Bed was comfortable. Very convenient for train station and shops, restaurants, etc. Reception allowed me to leave my rucksack after checking out which I appreciated.

As someone who gets quite warm at night, I would have appreciated the option of a sheet rather than just a thick duvet. Breakfast would have been convenient for my stay but it wasn't included and the price was a little high in my view. It can be a little noisy but to be expected in the busy location and it was Friday night.

Breakfast was tasty and well stocked both mornings. The staff in the dining area were new or in training so there were a few extra questions, but always with a smile. I messaged ahead to let staff know of a medical condition and they all seemed aware of it upon arrival and made every effort to assist me. I have rarely felt safer anywhere and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for the staff and how they care for their guests. The location is opposite Exeter central train station and a few short minutes walk to town, museums, the cathedral, restaurants of all cuisines, and a large garden area for the kids to run around.

The paint work etc is visibly worn however I’m only mentioning this for the fussier guests. Seeing some suitcase marks down the wall or a bit of chipped skirting board doesn’t bother us at all. The more worn visual appearance of a few areas was absolutely no indication of how anything else in the hotel was managed.

The location of the hotel is perfect. Right in the center of town near everything. The carpark is quite small, but practical and the price to park is reasonable. The breakfast was quite good with lots of choices. Vegetarian sausages were available on request. The staff was generally pleasant and helpful. The staircase is really beautiful! The shower was lovely and hot and quite powerful.

We had two rooms and it was impossible to turn down the heating in either room. We had to sleep with the windows open which wasn't great as the hotel is on the main road and there were loads of pigeons and seagulls, so it was quite noisy. The pillows are very hard! There seemed to be a plumbing problem in one room, as the water filled the sink and wouldn't drain very quickly. (Had we been staying more than one night, I would've informed the staff.) I was a bit disappointed by the lobby area. The armchairs / sofas were not particularly inviting for sitting and having a drink.

The hotel was in an amazing location right in the centre. All staff were lovely and the room was very comfortable and warm. The sofa bed was a good size for my little one and the buffet breakfast was amazing. The staff were also nice enough to upgrade our room as was my partners birthday.

As the property is an old building, some of the fixtures and fittings, such as doors or doorknobs were a little worn away, making it feel older than it maybe is. Think this is what some people in the reviews mean as dirty but it isn’t, it’s just worn. Parking is awful. very limited spaces not many places to even unload luggage. No discount even offered for surrounding car parks I.e NCP just round corner.
