The building is charming and set in some really lovely grounds. It has a warm and friendly ambience. All staff from reception to serving are lovely. Good sized, twin room with a bath and a shower. Good view of the grounds and a built in window seat. Really comfortable bed. Bedding and towels really clean and soft. The TV was also great - full working order with Freeview channels all tuned in. The Wi-Fi signal was strong in the room and throughout. Even with a full dining room, service was incredibly quick. Water and bread rolls were on the table. The portions were VERY generous. As you can then help yourself to tea or coffee you can choose to drink them in the dining room or take elsewhere. At just under £30 (Bread roll, water, starter, main, dessert, hot drink) it was really good value. A good choice at breakfast. Tea or coffee, juice, toast, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, croissant and cooked breakfast. Everything was fresh and delicious. Outside of the hotel, there is a lovely walk to the promenade which is so peaceful and tranquil.

I don't really want to pick any holes as we had such a lovely stay. It is a little tired in places and it's not ultra-sparkling clean but it's certainly not dirty either. Couldn't fault it otherwise.

The hotel was lovely; we had a nice room . The bed was very comfortable. The bar area was stylish and spacious- staff were very friendly. Plenty of choice for breakfast, and the dining room was a lovely huge room.

When booking the room it said toiletries were provided. There was only hand soap and hair/body wash. No conditioner or body lotion. I had to buy some. Evening meal was a good choice, but self serve for main meal, so food dries up. Parts of the hotel are looking a bit tired; the bathroom just needed a deep clean. Some walls and ceilings needed re-decorating. It is a huge hotel, so this would be costly.

The location was absolutely stunning and the building was like walking into a castle, it was just perfect for its surroundings. I even saw a peacock outside my window. When I arrived I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who was really helpful. I was late back in collecting my car after attending a wedding the night before, the catering staff allowed me to have some breakfast even tho I was 20mins late - I thought that was such a nice thing to do. I would stay here again.

I felt like the room was a bit underwhelming compared to the outside of the building. The inside decor could do with a bit of an update, but not to make it modern because that wouldn’t fit with being in the middle of the countryside in an old mediaeval looking building. Just tidying up paintwork and replacing upholstery- then I feel like £100 a night for a single room would be good value for money. Currently the room is basic (but just what I needed) and therefore I felt £100 for a single room was a bit steep

Great location with lush green trees, plants, flowers and view of the river visible from rooms. Helpful, friendly and professional staff. Lovely, grand, magnificent building, corridors and rooms with facilities such as ball rooms, snooker rooms, bar and a restaurant. Excellent for individuals, families and small or large groups. Indeed there was a large group of visitors who were staying when we were at the hotel for 4 days.

Main room doors made loud noises when we closed them. TV size could have been bigger. There needs to be a variety in breakfast items-the choices were the same for all the 4 days when we stayed. Many people are turning to veganism and vegetarianism and this should be reflected in the hotel menu.

This was our 2nd visit inside 4 months and so knew what to expect. We had a room with a sea view this time vs. a standard room last time which had a view of the car park and adjacent woodland ... it was worth the extra money for the view ! The room was spacious and comfortable with all the usual facilities that you'd expect. The decor is fairly 'tired' looking though ... certainly in need of a freshen-up in the near future. We choose this hotel when we visit The Lake District as Grange-Over-Sands is a pleasant town and is located near to Cark / Flookburgh when we go skydiving, Lake Windermere and and only some 45 - 60 mins away from the numerous mountain walks further north, e.g. Scafell Pike and Helvellyn. The hotel is also dog friendly and has a very convenient 20 min dog walk around the adjacent woodlands for those early mornings and late evenings us dog walkers have to endure ! The staff are welcoming, friendly and accommodating. We'll definitely be returning to the hotel in the near future.

As per the rooms, the general decor of the hotel is fairly 'tired' looking ... certainly in need of a freshen-up in the near future ... like the rooms. The is a games room, as such, on the lower floor which has a full size snooker table, pool table and a darts board. Unfortunately, all of these are not in a very good condition ... darts board could do with being renewed, the cloth on both tables was in poor condition and ripped in places, the cues were pretty sub-standard and there was no chalk. All minor stuff in the grand scheme of things but, if you have these facilities, then the least the hotel could do is to maintain them.

We had a very pleasant stay for 2 nights. The staff were very friendly and certainly enhanced our experience of the hotel. The food was average the first night and above average the second. The focus was a bar menu which was standard but a bit limited and it would have been good to have a wider restaurant menu. This may have been down to COVID. Room was comfortable and a modern bathroom with both having great views of the Kent Estuary and Morecambe bay. Overall an enjoyable stay in a great location.

Breakfast was excellent on the two days of stay. The Bar evening meal I received on our first day was way below the standard expected.

The Bar meal I ordered was fish and chips. The fish was cod and was so over cooked the batter and what fish I was able to detach from the batter was baked and to tough for me to chew.I complained and my meal was replaced. My replacement meal was scampi and was badly presented, some of the chips were blackened, possibly frost damage to the original potato, the salad was poor. The mushy peas were good. You would have thought a little more attention would have been given to my replacement meal but it was not. The restaurant was busy on the night, maybe that was the problem? The quality and service at breakfast each day made up for my bar meal experience.

Beautiful old building which I really hope is invested in to keep the history which is clearly a key part of this building. Decoration is probably looking a little and concerned that the painting and updating is not in keeping with this historic building. Great staff would have been nice to have more than one choice of meat on the carvery option.

The outhouse in the garden was falling apart and it's a shame that the great scenery is blocked by tall trees.
