We were delighted by the interaction with Sam and the locals, the football was on and we chatted to everyone and were treated as part of the gang, they also gave us tips on where to go. Great location for our stop over on the way to Scotland, but perfectly placed for a trip further into The Lakes. The room was wonderful, couldn't have asked for more, I was concerned on arrival that it was next to the road, but the walls are so thick we didn't hear it at all. We ate here too and the food was incredibly tasty.

One thought, room 4, our room there was no mirror next to the plug sockets which made sorting my hair a bit of a problem, but easily resolved.

Wonderful hosts made us feel very welcome. Food was excellent as too the service, beds comfortable and everything clean. We would definitely return.

Room was very compact, not much could be done about that . No fridge and only one small serving of milk supplied.Coffee machine doesn’t seem to function correctly. Positioned on a noisy road but that’s obvious when you book. Door bangs if window is open.

Wonderful host and staff, as a solo traveler I felt very welcome. Lovely, comfortable room with nice decor and great choice of drinks in the bar - didn’t eat but the food smelt wonderful. Location of the property was good in relation to nearby Morecambe Bay and Kendal.

Loved the bathroom design but the shower area could do with a deep clean as tiling quite stained in places. Bedroom could also do with paint touching up as there were some big scuffs on the walls which slightly detracted from the lovely decor.

Staff provide impeccable service, nothing is too much effort. Very friendly and chatty but not imposing. Sam was delightful when greeting us and showing us to our room, even though we only booked the room 20 minutes beforehand. Would absolutely recommend staying for dinner and booking in for breakfast - compliments to the chef! Beautifully maintained, really lovely understated decor. Comfy bed, very quiet in the evening so had a great night’s sleep. We also went for the room with the big bath - amazing. Wish we could have stayed another night after another cold, wet day in Kendal.

Nothing, room was a lot colder than the rest of the property but it was also the biggest and was at the end of the building with exposed walls. However, the duvet was lovely and warm, and the host provided us with a heater to help us dry out our clothes

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. The staff are all incredibly friendly and welcoming. So are the locals. Sam especially, she goes above and beyond to make the stay amazing. I cannot recommend this place more. The food is amazing. Super clean room. The bath is to die for. The location is great, short drive to the lakes. Would highly recommend. We will for sure be returning

There is no negatives at all.

The landlady couldn’t have been nicer. We arrived at the hotel late due to issues beyond our control. The lady kept the kitchen open until we had been fed which was a well received gesture - the food was very well received. The rooms are large and sufficiently appointed; the ensuite had a lovely big shower cubicle. What a breakfast! We had the traditional breakfast which was plentiful and tasty. I was introduced to Borrowdale Bitter an absolutely lovely pint of which I had several!

The shower in room 2 could do with being a bit more powerful especially as it was a large shower cubicle in a smart ensuite.

The evening meal and breakfast at the Tavern were exceptional. It was clear that everything was homemade and that fresh ingredients were used. I opted for the steak and ale pie after a recommendation from the waitress and it was the best pie I’ve ever had! The evening we stayed they’d not expected it to be busy but it didn’t turn out that way. Two members of staff were running the bar and the restaurant and did an amazing job despite being run off their feet. They were friendly and didn’t hesitate to meet our needs. We would definitely stay again!

Toiletries were advertised as being available but there was only handwash and hand cream. Few marks in the walls (coffee slashes) which could have been quickly removed to make it look a little better.

Beautiful room, the bed was so comfy and the bath was excellent. Great range of viewing options on the TV, wasnt expecting much more than freeview, but they had netflix and iplayer, etc. The food and drinks in the restaurant/bar were superb - they obviously have a great chef. Overall, I loved the chilled atmosphere and we had a really brilliant time.

It's absolutely no fault of the place, but the road outside has the occasional car, motorbike, truck speeding down it - makes it a bit noisy if you have to have your window open at night. Again, completely not their fault, it's only noticeable because it's so relaxing and peaceful

Great location from the south to start exploring the Lakes. Really warm and friendly welcome, immediately making us feel at home. Great room overlooking the car park so less road noise. Food was delicious with large portions.

Only one pillow which was a bit thin, which affected sleep. Neighbouring room inhabitants were very noisy and door was slammed several times during the night - not the fault of the Tavern though.

The Tavern is a tavern but that is not a comment meant to belittle it. We got the impression that it was, perhaps, work in progress. What attracted us to The Tavern in the first instance was that we had experienced the food and we were certainly not disappointedd in that respect. We had comfortable beds and we thought that the bathroom was exceptional and very modern with excellent complimentary items and good towels. We could not fault the pleasant helpfulness of the staff. Could not hang trousers - there was no appropriate hanger. Very acceptable hospitality tray.

There were no chairs in the bedroom. There was no non-slip mat in the (excellent) shower: the shower floor was dangerously slippery (a potential source of danger for the hotel). The television was a disaster! We never quite got the hang of how to operate it (we did read the instructions in the information manual). A great pity because the screen was terrific. We found it so0mewhat puzzling that we were unable to book direct with the hotel.
