We loved everything about our stay at the Derby Arms which is in a peaceful location. We were made very welcome by the lovely staff and the atmosphere in the old coaching inn is so relaxed. The real ales and vegetarian dinners/breakfasts were thoughtfully prepared and presented. Our room was spacious, lots of storage space, and had one of the most comfortable beds we've slept in. We'll always stay here when we're in the area, especially as the Derby Arms is a very dog-friendly place to stay. It's only a short distance to Foulshaw Moss nature reserve where you can see ospreys and many other birds, wildlife, trees and flowers.

The location is perfect with both good links to nearby places - not far from a main road - while also feeling quite isolated and hidden away. The inn itself was very clean and cosy, with a good atmosphere and a great setting to eat or drink inside or out. The room itself was, perfectly clean, very spacious with lovely old furniture and fittings, all amenities needed, a very cosy feeling and a very comfortable bed. The pub provided good drinks, the meal in the evening was likely some of the best food I have ever eaten in a pub and the (complimentary) breakfast was equally amazing. Staff were very freindly and it is always nice to have such a dog-friendly pub.

There is a shower head attached to the stand-alone bath but no actual stand-in shower, this is uneccessary however and would likely be impractical in the room.

Great homely pub with rooms...down to earth and relaxing. No airs and graces but that's fine by us. Room was pretty small but cosy....needed a little spruce up but no real gripes. Food was really excellent!! Service friendly and efficient. Had shepherd's pie which was delicious... great to get proper hot fresh veg alongside it too!! Only problem we had which is beyond their control is that next door to our room the chap was up late pacing with creaky floorboards and telly on. Got a few hours sleep in before he was up again at 3.30am for shower....then on phone. He then left with door banging loudly. Really very inconsiderate but that's just some folk I guess .

Very friendly welcome. Pub has been decorated to reflect the Georgian building & has lovely bold colours together with a wide variety of attractive furniture. We had a huge bathroom with a spectacular roll top bath. Breakfast was excellent. Evening meals were good but a bit pricey (especially when one of the options was just a salad) but on Wednesdays they do 50% off - so you need to book! Pub is easily accessible from the local A road but the downside was a slight background traffic noise (we had the windows open at night due to the heat). Close by to Windermere & Grange over Sands. This pub is very popular with locals, has a lovely beer garden, a pop-up pizza kitchen on Friday nights and an excellent range of local ales.

We found the mattress on our bed uncomfortable & mentioned it to staff on our departure. They accepted our comments graciously and said that they are taking action on this.

I chose it because it was dog friendly and a friend recommended it. They were super understanding about dogs - as one lady put it, most ‘pet friendly’ hotels are just pet tolerant but the Derby Arms were completely dog-focused and as any dog owner will tell you, this makes all the difference between an anxious trip and a relaxed and enjoyable one. The hotel itself is very pretty and laid back. My bedroom was lovely and I appreciated the local touches. Perfect location for onward travel and for exploring the Lake District too (I was doing a bit of both). I wish my stay was longer but will definitely be back!

The car park could be a little bigger.

Lovely, helpful, and friendly staff - I received a very warm welcome. Easy safe parking. Beautiful room, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, plentiful hot water. The decor and style is lovely, very traditional but not at all musty. The bathrooms are nicely fitted with modern facilities and lovely locally made toiletries. Lots of fluffy clean towels are provided. All in all, it's very comfortable. The wifi is excellent, too. The tea and juice provided in the room are really nice touches, makes it feel extra special. Definitely feels luxury and well worth the money. The hotel is well located. Though it's near the main road, you cannot hear the road in the rooms. The views from the rooms are gorgeous. It is very peaceful to wake up there with sounds of birds and sheep.

Only problem was that the room (no. 4) was right next to a door that led down to the pub and every time someone came up, the door banged loudly and shook the bed, so that stopped me falling asleep until quite late. The room was also VERY hot - understand nothing can be done about the weather, but potentially a little fan by the bed could perhaps help. Would stay again but I'd request a room away from that door down to the pub. Perhaps fitting a device that makes the door shut silently/without banging could make this room more comfortable

A welcoming and comfortable stay in a great location. The Inn is a centre for quality and individual stays with a warm welcome offered to all….parking is on site and safe with a community shop next door. Bedrooms are individual and high quality with breakfasts first class a d a great start to each day. croeso cynnes iawm yma bob tro. ✔️. Cŵn 🐶✔️. 10/10 stâff bendigedig ✔️. 🥘✔️. 🍺✔️

The only suggestion i might make is that perhaps one lighter evening meal option eg Curry - might be added to excellent evening menu which contains a good range of warm autumnul meals and pies etc

Like stepping back in time. Decor in room fitting to age of building, but basic. Bed very comfortable. Bath lovely! Food very good. Staff good. Louise particularly helpful. Good atmosphere in the evenings - a genuinely historic building.

In parts, needed some tlc. Struggled up the very narrow steep stairs with my case (would have been better if I had been asked if I needed help?) Thought it a bit overpriced for what it was. Medium glass of red wine £8.00?? Reception was the bar, so had to wait to get booked in while pints were pulled!!

…exceptional value for money, with a v good breakfast included.... roll top bath in a warm and spacious, if basic, bathroom... great base for touring Windermere etc

.... heating didn’t always work in the room, although warm when on...main rooms of the pub were a bit chilly, despite a couple of open fires ... clearly understaffed, bar service quite slow but often one person doing everything ... lighting created no atmosphere, very bright. A few lamps would add a great deal ... once again, lots of dogs in the breakfast room ( one couple had 4 !) ... I love dogs but not where food is served. I mentioned this when I stayed before. pub is dog friendly, for a drink that’s fine

Room was clean and comfortable lovely toiletriessupplied, good location just off main road n surrounded by countryside. Staff were friendly and breakfast room was nice. Always room in the car park to park. Dog friendly

Struggled with bath a little, looked very attractive but a bit awkward for people with mobility issues as you had to stand in bath n hose yourself down. Breakfast was fine but only cereals provided other than hot breakfast, no fruit, yogurt etc.
