Property was very clean and tidy, hotel has recently gone through some redecorating our room was spacious and clean.

Our room faced the rear of the property. Deliveries and skips under Our window could get quite noisy if you needed the window open. These rooms should have a discounted price set against similar rooms facing the front or gardens.

All staff helpful and friendly, good selection of breakfast, good selection in the bar to, lovely old building, the grounds of the hotel beautiful to, the hotel was close to the town, I'm an Agatha Christie fan so it was nice to think I had stayed in the same hotel as her,

Very comfortable and elegant. I would stay here even without the Agatha Christie connection.

The menu in the restaurant could have been a bit more interesting but the prices were good.

Beautiful grand building with many original features. Very smart friendly and attentive staff. Our room was very large with very comfy beds. Overall it was like stepping back in time and we where made to feel special and at ease. My wife being a massive Agatha Christie fan particularly revelled in the history of the place. Spotlessly clean throughout with amazing decor . Breakfast very good with a great choice and hot drinks served on request in an amazing dining room but having our little pooch with us , we were seated in the lounge bar which was very impressive in itself. Very dog friendly hotel and set in a quiet area just a short stroll into town ( 2 dog friendly nice pubs only 3 - 5 minutes away) . Overall, amazing.

My only slight niggle would be that there was no outside seating.

The hotel was lovely; the room was comfortable and spacious, and the location was perfect for me. The breakfast was excellent and delicious, with a focus on traditional English fried breakfast and an excellent selection of drinks to choose from

It's a small thing, but the lift was slow and confusing. I felt like I didn't know when it was arriving. The room's magnetic keycards also seemed fragile, and I had to reauthenticate them. Regarding the breakfast, I would have liked to have seen more healthy options, like a more comprehensive selection of fresh fruit and options for bread spreads, like Nutella.

Check in was quick and easy, my room wasn't ready but that was okay I had arrived early and I was able to leave my suitcase at the hotel until I could check in at the correct time.

On the first day the waitress was wandering around for ages with my breakfast in her hand, she didn't seem to know where she was bringing it although I said twice I think that's mine she still wandered off. When she did eventually give me my breakfast the order was wrong I had ordered tomatoes which weren't on my plate, I asked her to get the tomatoes for me, instead of leaving the breakfast for me and going to fetch tomatoes she took the whole plate away, by the time I actually got my breakfast to eat it was cold. One of her colleagues apologised and said she's new. I received no apology form my waitress. Breakfast on the second day was a buffet breakfast and was okay.

We stayed for 3 nights, travelling up from Swansea in the South of Wales and basically used the hotel as a base for exploring (due to limited time) a very small, but interesting part of Yorkshire. We had a double room, the bed was very comfortable and clean. TV/wifi was fine, tea/coffee making facilities were present and room had an Iron, ironing board, hairdryer, trouser press and extra pillows and (I think) blankets. Bathroom was clean, more than adequate with a bath and shower. No issues with the shower....it worked well. The hotel was a lovely building, corridors were clean and tidy, bar and ground floor seating was great with lots of beautifully appointed rooms/areas available for anyone wishing to read, chat etc. We, like most people, I think, always love a good breakfast and the one on offer didn't disappoint. The selection of food available was great and plentiful, whether you liked a light breakfast or a 'full english' (us!). The dining room was impressive, spacious, clean, tidy and, in a nutshell, a lovely place to have breakfast in and start the day. (My wife described it as 'serene') Staff were friendly, attentive without being intrusive and it was nice to see tables cleared and relaid quickly when diners left. We couldn't fault the breakfast, staff or the facilities. It really helped set us up for the day. Parking cost £10 per 24 hours. We had no problem with that and we paid at reception. There was ample parking on site btw. It's a big hotel and it had a good number of guests I think.....but it never 'felt' busy......another plus. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent there. OK it was a short stay but I suspect that a longer one would have been just as good. BTW, we didn't dine in the restaurant during the evening, It wasn't that it didn't look to be a good one,,,,,we were just too tired from full days out. The menu looked good though.

We really can't think of anything to dislike

The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. We had an evening meal in the restaurant and this was very good indeed, the chicken and mushroom pie was delicious. Breakfast was also very good. We have stayed here many times and it never fails to live up to expectations.

Our room was very cold upon arrival even though the heating was full on as the weather was bitter cold outside. A simple call to reception resulted in an extra fan heater and this was more than enough to keep us cosy. The heater was provided within 15 mins of the call, exceptional service! Thank you.

The staff were exceptional, friendly, helpful, and efficient. The bar area was comfortable and inviting. Reception staff were very professional and helpful. The reception area was very welcoming. Food is excellent, both breakfast and evening meal. The suite i had was lovely too having everything you need to make my stay very pleasant and relaxing. Overall an exceptional hotel

The heating in the suite was very hit and miss. The radiator in the living room barely came on, so the room got quite cold at times. The bedroom lost all heat when the curtains were closed due to the radiator being very small and underneath the window. It lost a lot of heat through the window, due to it not being double glazed. The bed was not very comfortable for me so i didn't sleep too well, but i realise that is a personal thing for every individual

Great condition. Everywhere was of an exceptionally high standard. Very central, good parking that unfortunately you had to pay for. Staff excellent. Food good. Brilliant lounge and other smaller reading rooms. Lovely restaurant.

One or two minor problems. Lighting in room Really poor. Had to book dinner in advance to ensure eating in the hotel. Could not accommodate us in the Saturday as we had not booked in advance. Disappointing as you are based there to tour the area. I.e. York, Leeds, Ilkley, Skipton, so hard to know when you might get back at night. But you are an hotel guest.
