Staff were very welcoming on arrival, very smooth check in and escorted us to our room. The food was very tasty & there was a good selection of ales & beers. The room was very clean £ the bed was very comfortable. Free parking is always appreciated & well lit up with censor lights. Overall a really enjoyable stay. Ideal for the walking community and very dog friendly.
The location is a little remote if you're not used to small country lanes but that was an advantage with the low noise levels from the infrequent traffic.

Lovely charming pub and hotel in a beautiful spot. We stayed one night on our way up to Scotland. Michael made us very welcome and was super helpful, all staff were lovely. Some nice little walks from the property. The food was delicious and the restaurant and bar area was beautifully done. Our room was very comfy and cosy, very clean and nicely done. Fresh water and milk on site was a nice touch. Parking on site was fine, gets very busy but staff will do their best to direct you.
Nothing to dislike - great place, lovely location, wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

It was a lovely pub with a warm welcoming atmosphere and a good selection of beers and Gin. The bed was comfy and the food was very good. We ate there 2 nights. It’s a small but perfectly formed menu and both meals were delicious. The staff were great, very helpful and friendly as were the locals we chatted to over our drink.
Just small things really. The room was clean but there were loads of cobwebs around the ceiling. There was no plug for the sink and the shower door would have been better sliding the other way so you didn’t have to squish round the sink. The only other thing is having to go outside to get to the bedrooms, not great when it’s lashing down, but it didn’t spoil the stay

A very warm welcome on arrival and this warm welcoming stayed throughout the four days of the trip. Easy access to the room which was cosy and the bathroom was very clean, the shower setting worked well. black out curtains where another bonus to the room. All the staff from morning to evening where polite and friendly, enjoyed the conversation with bar staff and kitchen staff about the local area. Internet connect worked well, specially for the seclusion of the pub. Three miles from Kendal which is a easy and simple drive to the local town.
Only a small TV in the bedroom but plenty of channels and a larger TV might detract from the room itself.

Lovely place and the food was excellent. I have only marked it down as 'Good' for comfort and not outstanding, due to the bed was too soft for us and also it was 2 three quarter mattresses pushed together so there was a large void in the middle of the bed when you tried to cosy up. The room was lovely, nice and warm once we turned the radiator on - we arrived following on from the snow fall, there was still snow and ice on the ground. We were taken to our room by the young lady who had advised us they had given us a complimentary room upgrade to a king size bed, this was a lovely surprise. However, when she opened our bedroom door she advised us that the heating wasn't working in the bedroom, there was a small fan heater to use if we wanted and we could open the window if we wished 🤣, you're having a laugh aren't you when it's -3 outside and the windows are single glazed. Unfortunately our upgraded room ensuite did not have a bath in it as opposed to the one we had chosen and was rather bijou in size. We settled in and noticed the radiator valve was turned down, so we turned it up, alongside of using the fan heater and it was lovely and warm and toastie. When we went down into the pub for an evening meal the gentleman behind the bar advised us of what we had already found out, the radiator in the room was actually working and just needed the thermostat valve turning up. All the staff we very polite and helpful, the pub food was lovely and piping hot.
Small ensuite, the position of the wash basin against the shower door opening was extremely close making access difficult for the larger framed person. The bed was too soft and was made up of 2 individual mattresses pushed together which left a huge void in the middle of the bed making it uncomfortable when snuggling up.

Quiet location in the lanes, just what we wanted. Currently up for sale with temporary management, but Grace even wrote us a personalised list of what she thought we would like to see/do in the area. Food was very good pub food. Room was lovely and they only go in on request, which, as we were there for 3 nights we were happy to be left alone (just asked for extra loo roll which they gave us ample of)
Nothing particularly, we would go again.

The actual room excelled our expectations - quirky, comfy and exceptionally clean. The pub was in an idyllic and picturesque location. Initially some of the staff seemed rather brusque but we soon got to know them. In fact the kitchen staff went out of their way to keep the kitchen open a little later and cook us a meal when we were unaware of their closing times. It is also useful to know that they actually reserve table for guests staying every night just in case you do want to eat there. Food of a high standard as supplied by local producers. Fresh milk and bottled water supplied daily, which was appreciated.
A guide booklet of some sort in the room would be very useful- times of meals, pub opening hours etc. We were unaware that the room would not be serviced daily unless requested. Little things like a top up of tea bags, removal of dirty cups would be good. The rooms are in a separate building, meaning you need to go outside next door for breakfast, they are also up some very steep stairs-not an issue for us but might be for some. The location is very rural and too far/ dangerous to walk to any other restaurants/ inns.

What is your idea if a countryside, village pub? Dog friendly? Somewhere to tie up your horse? Indoor & outdoor area? Log fire? Good beer & food? Fab staff? Proper village location but close to a nice town? Babbling brook & beautiful scenery? Plenty of on the doorstep walking routes? Lovely spacious rooms with decent bedside tables! Well this is the place for you! We arrived late (traffic!) So missed evening meal but if the breakfast was anything to go by, it will have been fab. The black pudding & sausages were very tastey indeed! Would definitely go back again if in the area.
Traffic!!! As we missed Tea & valuable drinking time at this lovely pub.

All the staff were really helpful and friendly. The food was excellent at both dinner and breakfast, although the choice of cereals, fruit etc at breakfast was rather limited. Our room was very attractively decorated and the decor was interesting throughout the pub.
Our room was rather small and the shower compartment was very small. Having to go outside to get from the bar area to the bedrooms (accessed via an exterior flight of stairs) was a bit inconvenient. I guess this is a matter of personal taste, but we found the beds very hard.

The bar was cosy with comfy chairs and small tables. The welcome from the Manager and Chef was great. The Chef even gave a us a recipe! Dinner was excellent. The room (#6) was cute and the ensuite modern and bright. There is a roof window above the bed with a blind, although we chose to leave the blind open.
Although we are not very tall, the ceiling in the bathroom above the toilet caused a couple of head bumps!
