The staff was exceptional! Everyone went out of their way to help us and make our stay very pleasant. Our suite was beautifully decorated and the grounds are lovely (especially love your peonies)!

Only downside was the lack of air conditioning. It was hard to fully enjoy our delicious meal with trickles of sweat making their way down our bodies. Our suite was missing a fan and one of the staff loaned us their personal oscillating fan (incredibly nice of them) so that we could sleep more comfortably. Beautiful property with stellar staff made our stay so memorable (despite the heat). Air conditioning would have made it perfect!

The room was bright and airy. Bathroom had shower and separate bath, along with a good range of toiletries. Tea and coffee in the room was complimentary. Turning down service was unobtrusive. Only there one evening so did not make use of the spa. Gardens well kept and pleasant to walk around. Loved the llamas and pigs. The Source is phenomenal and the tasting menu and wine pairing was exceptional. Sadly, I did not have the time to sample Spice.

Nothing that could be easily remedied but the reception area is very small. Big enough for my party of 2 but on checkout the area was crowded and became less private.

A fabulous country hotel, beautifully appointed rooms, and in a pretty location. The alpacas in the grounds are a delight! The restaurant staff are discreetly attentive and knowledgeable, and the food was delicious. We had a tasting menu on the first night and ate in Gilpin Spice on the second night. Breakfasts are cooked to order and with a huge choice of dishes.

There is nothing about The Gilpin to dislike, but an onsite pool and facilities would be an added bonus. However, this is only a very small gripe because a free pass can be obtained from the hotel for a Health Club in Troutbeck which has a pool, and there is also the opportunity to book in-house spa treatments.

We had a spa suite. If you are looking for the perfect romantic getaway with your significant other, do this! Grounds were spectacular, surrounded by a peaceful natural backdrop. The main house was beautiful decorated and allowed for a nice escape to read, have a drink or sit near a fire. I am on a 12 day vacation and we stay at the Gilpin moving across the UK and it was my favorite!

Proximity to town was ok, just have to take your time in the narrow roads, but that’s almost everywhere in the Lake District I guess.

Lovely room with high quality fixtures and fittings, especially the thick fluffy towels! I loved the toiletries and noticed these were locally sourced. It was quirky having a stuffed cat as your “do not disturb” I like that! I love a la carte breakfast, with orders taken at the table and you had the option to sit in a number of rooms. High quality produce.

Although the room was fabulous, the room rate was expensive considering breakfast was not included.

The lake rooms and the outdoor surroundings have vastly improved since our last visit with the addition of an excellent restaurant for breakfast and dinner. There is no need to visit Gilpin Lodge at all now and on the occasion we did, we both returned with a bad case of food poisoning the morning after the dinner at the Source, We cannot wait to return,now one of our favourite haunts in the UK and great staff as well. Great hotel, loved the cosy feel it had, as well as the friendly staff

For our 1 night stay, the check-in time (3pm) is quite late and check-out time (10:30) is quite early, so we could not enjoy the arrival afternoon as much as we liked and had no time in the morning to enjoy the room Oh.. and the TV had a total mind of its own, never had difficulty working a TV before !

Room was very comfortable and really well equipped. Bed was also very comfortable. Bathroom was excellent with a very good range of toiletries. Views of surrounding area were great, amused to see alpacas outside our room! Free electric car charging was much appreciated. Meals in Hrishi and Gilpin Spice were superb, waiters and sommelier were attentive but not obtrusive and their descriptions of the food and accompanying wine were very good and added to our enjoyment of the meals.

we stayed both at the gilpin hotel and the lake house and both accomodations has been perfect . the three restaurants are very good for food quality and service . the pic nic on the lake was so romantic...

If I can give a suggestion, the concierge should give advices on the excursions and places to visit. someone didn't seem to know the destination where the hotel is located

exceptional from start to finish. the staff are incredibly courteous, knowledgeable and truly understand what it means to host. if you can dine, I would recommend every meal of every day…. and make sure you book early for Hrishi. The Michelin star restaurant is sensational - I’m not skilled enough with words to describe, but I very rarely write reviews so this is testament to the whole establishment. excellent. unique. top drawer.
