Overall a brilliant stay. Beautiful quiet spot. Grounds large scenic and well kept. House stone and 'historic country'. Enough safe parking. Room enormous, furnished in English Country Home style, but not cold. Light, but with effective curtains for once. Enough storage if a bit basic. Plenty of power points. Really large, comfy bed and pillows. Very large shower/bathroom with a strong shower and plenty of shelves, often a problem in B&Bs. Hostess so dignified and helpful. Unusual facilities available such as a full size snooker table. We didn't get to take the dogs to the river for a swim, but that's the sort of thing on offer. You do need to like dogs really, although if you don't I think the property would provide well for that.
Only minor grouses. Although the breakfasts were lovely, materials fresh and great quality, and in some ways a variety on offer, there wasn't a great choice of main options. We dislike having to choose an option the day before. There wasn't enough light for reading in the room.

A wonderful stay with Christine making you feel right at home. It’s not a bnb as such, more a historic country home where you have the pleasure of staying at. A comfortable big bed and cosy room. Loved walking the two friendly spaniels (Spencer and Barney) to go and say hello to the piggies before breakfast!
Nothing - but do note our room had an open plan bathroom / bedroom (although WC was round a corner). This was not a problem for us, but possibly not the most privacy for an early romantic getaway! (I can’t speak for the layout of the other rooms).

A wonderful stay at a huge manor house, exceeded our expectations. Burnhopeside had everything we needed and more for our visit to Durham and Newcastle. Spencer the spaniel greeted us on arrival and offered plenty of cuddles and attention throughout our stay. The breakfast was fantastic, a home made feast served at any time we wanted and included fresh berries, yoghurt, cooked breakfast, toast, jams, cereals and teas. The room and bathroom had copious amounts of space and the super king size bed was unbelievably comfortable. We even spotted a kingfisher whilst exploring some of the 500 acres of grounds with our dog. Christine was so kind and hospitable we would highly recommend staying here.
Nothing. Everything was great 👍

I stayed for one night with my dog and Christine was an absolutely amazing host . Nothing is too much trouble for her and that also goes for all the staff Bed and pillows were wonderful and comfortable . Everywhere was spotlessly clean . Breakfast was delicious and lots of choice The grounds were beautiful and myself and Willow loved the space and of course Christine's 2 spaniels . I will definitely be staying again and already planning a trip there next summer with my son and grandson from Japan . Best stay and well recommend .
I LOVED EVERYTHING Nothing not to like!

Beautiful surroundings, friendly welcome. Loved their gorgeous dogs. Beautiful walk to the river through the fields and seeing the piglets. Great snooker table. Delicious breakfast, cereal, fresh fruit, toast & jams, cooked options. Very comfy beds in large bedrooms. Close drive to Durham. Felt like a home from home. Loved having a kettle, teas, bottled water and biscuits in the room.
Would have been nice to have had a mat in the bath when having a shower as was slippy. Staying on a Sunday evening, the only place open locally was an Italian restaurant. Luckily, it was a great restaurant but it was the only place open as an option at short notice.

From the moment we were greeted upon our arrival by Christine (and her beautiful dogs Barney and Spencer) it was clear this was going to be a special stay. We were given clear and concise information regarding the property and our room, as well as being offered a delightful and much needed pot of tea and biscuits which were taken in the glorious living room with magnificent views across the lawns. We felt as if we'd been invited on a country house weekend with all the luxury, peace and tranquility that entails. The room was spacious, the furniture and fittings superb and the bed extremely comfortable. Flasks of milk, a variety of teas and coffees, a selection of biscuits and even a coffee machine added to the comfort of the room. The property is set within many acres of land and on the first morning Barney and Spencer took us on a tour of the grounds which included woodland walks, a visit to the piggery and a lot of tennis ball and stick throwing! Breakfast was excellent with a selection of delicious fresh summer fruits, cereals, yoghurts, fruit juice and toast, together with a wide selection of cooked options including home reared pork sausages and bacon, smoked salmon, together with eggs of your choice. Added enjoyable features were a full sized snooker table, fascinating conversations with other guests over breakfast at a large communal table and a wide variety of bird species in the immedaite environs. Thank you Christine and your family for a delightful stay. We will certainly be back!

I thought the breakfast was very good (vegetarian) and it was all made/delivered very promptly. I was pleased that I wasn't expected to be too early for breakfast!!! I appreciated the flexibility of not having to give a firm arrival time (as I wasn't sure when booking). I also appreciated the central heating being on (even thought it was May .... ) as it had rained heavily and, outside, it felt damp. The offer of being given local recommendations to eat was also welcomed, even though I didn't need it. Fresh milk in the room was great.
I thought aspects of the decor could have been smarter, e.g., in the bathroom. Also, I really hate those toilet brushes ..... There was no working lock on the bedroom window although I doubt anybody would be climbing up to get in on the first floor. Having extra milk would have been useful (e.g., in a little refrigerator), just in case it was needed. However, I am more bothered about cleanliness and couldn't fault this. Overall, I was very comfortable. Thank you.

This is like a Stately Home set in its own grounds/wooded area. A beautiful building where you could easily film a period drama. The staff were great, very polite and helpful. The rooms were very comfortable with everything we needed. Breakfast was superb and made exactly how we liked it. Great place to take our dog with lots of walks. Free and easy parking for the car. Very quiet at night so sleep was excellent. Superb location for travelling around Durham.

Extremely welcoming host Christine. Felt like we were staying in someone’s home rather than a ‘hotel’/BB. The house has a cosy warm feel to it. Set in beautiful grounds. Beds are huge and linen and duvet top quality. Breakfast is cooked to order and plenty of choice cereal/fruit etc. Use of billiards table on offer. Plenty of parking. Great recommendation of local Italian food which was top notch.
Absolute nothing to suggest an improvement on x

This is such a lovely place to stay - peaceful with nice grounds and very dog friendly. The host is very welcoming and the rooms very comfortable. Breakfast is exceptionally good with lots of choice and the sausages and bacon coming from the estate itself.
There isn't anything that I didn't like but there are things to be aware of: This a very quiet hotel so if you like lots of hustle and bustle then it may not be the place for you (only 4 rooms). There is no bar or drinks served so go prepared. The host is more than happy to provide glasses etc.
