We were really pleased to stay at the Thirsty Scholar as it was a lovely with history and not far from where we were going for a party . Adele was very welcoming as were the other staff. It was lovely and warm in the bedroom and nice light duvet and nice and clean and the room had all the basics that you need for a stay. Shower lovely and hot. Lovely. You could see every effort had been made to try and make it nice for guests. Breakfast was amazing - all fresh local food, could taste the difference and it was much appreciated. Nice not to be served the cheapest of ingredients - a first for us.
As it was an exceptionally windy night the sash windows rattled noisily all night , which disturbed sleep but I don’t think this could be helped.

The selling points of this property were its location, the room rate and the interesting supper menu. On arrival we were greeted in a very friendly manner and taken straight to our rooms, which were delightful. We had a delicious supper, a restful night and an equally delicious breakfast. The owners and their staff could not have been more helpful. The hard work put into this property since the owners bought it three years ago is evident; it continues, to maintain such high standards. Excellent!
Car parking on the street is a matter of pot luck, but that is a problem everywhere locally. We were fortunate.

I must appreciate the hostess who looked after my daughter who was having problems with her university accommodation and had to shift out at short notice. They made her feel at home and she even dropped her to uni once as she missed her bus. It was a great help to my daughter who was living away from home and country for the first time. I'm very grateful

Adele and the staff are very friendly and helpful and I felt comfortable and well cared for especially Adele the Owner who helped me with my luggage and also shuttle service to the car park. The food and atmosphere in the pub was excellent and the breakfast hearty fresh and delicious. Room was comfy and I slept well.
I didn't like the carpets on the stairs and bedroom.

Room was very clean and the food was excellent. The staff were friendly and very accommodating
There is no parking linked to the property, as it is on a very small one way street. However, if you get there at the right time you can park on the road, and there is a car park nearby offering free overnight parking

Excellent choice on breakfast menu, but portions were massive. Great choice on evening menu and great food too. The rump steak was excellent and extremely good value for money. Loved the lamb lasagne too ! Lovely compact room, and the bed was extremely comfortable ❤️ Parking bit of a nightmare, but to be expected in a quaint Cornish town. Car parks were 5 mins walk away, with plenty of spaces. Staff, especially Adele extremely kind and helpful.
The bathroom needed a shelf over the back of the toilet, or above the towel rail or above the basin, as there was no space to put anything ! Also could have done with a few hooks in the bathroom. The coffee at breakfast was poor, weak and wishy washy 😟

Friendly and helpful staff & hosts Room was clean/tidy/cosy - tea/coffee etc and a decent size TV Modern en-suite bathroom Good selection of beers in the bar Great breakfast Good quality & selection of pub food in the restaurant Nice decor & atmosphere in the bar/restaurant Nearby (minute or two on foot) free car park.
Mould on the privacy drapes and mildew on the room windows. Mildew/Mould clogging up the en-suite showerhead. - Simple fixes Parking problematic if arriving later on due to availability.

A warm welcome on arrival and swiftly escorted to a nearby car park to leave my car over night. Room was cosy and nicely furnished. Beautiful view of the estuary and the pub's garden. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was lovely with a great shower. I ate the full English breakfast with a pot of tea and enjoyed every mouthful.

It was a lovely warm pub, the atmosphere was friendly, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and proud of their place. The breakfast was hot and plentiful , the room was a good size
Although there is carpark about a 5 min walk away …. It’s not the easiest place to get to. Carpark is £6.50 for 24hours.

Local information from owners; bus, parking etc Good breakfast Clean and comfortable. Good shower Location
Some fittings a bit dodgy - door handle came off but quickly fixed. Shower leaked through bathroom ceiling, An old property like this will always suffer maintentance problems.
