The location is in the High St and just a few minutes away from the river, church and other High St shops/pubs/restaurants. It looks very ‘oldy worldy’ from the outside and the same inside. Like stepping back in time a couple of centuries. The interior decor has been preserved or sympathetically reproduced and the main staircase is original as are the sloping floor in our superior double bedroom on 2nd floor. There was a few creaks from an adjacent room, but only to be expected as such an old hotel. The staff we engaged with were exceptionally friendly and helpful. And we could choose where we wanted to eat our meals (had breakfast and a Sunday roast) The car park spaces are limited due to location of the hotel, but we found a space and left it there for the 3 nights we stayed. There is a pay & display carpark directly behind the hotel where the charges were £6 for 24hrs. I would recommend for a short stay.

Our bathroom had a very small shower which may pose a problem if you are a large size.

Staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Evening meal and breakfast were excellent. Shower was large with good pressure and hot water. Considering the location the parking area was better than expected.

Although we didn’t want a four poster bed, it was the only room available when the hotel kindly changed our date. For some unknown reason the room was incredibly hot even though all radiators wrre off. We tried sleeping without duvet (in December) but still too hot so we had the window open all night. Window was left open all the next day so it was bearable the next evening. Very strange!

Firstly thankyou for the email preparing us for a tight turn into the car park and steep steps from the first to second floor. That was so honest and so helpful. Great bed, lovely linen, brilliant food, smashing bath - noisy plumbing bringing water, eventually, to the cold tap

We were given such a good idea of the hotel before we went there wasn’t anything to dislike, the plumbing needs a little work, but the building is old - and characterful - the same as me. And I make odd noises too

This has to be the most dog friendly hotel we have ever stayed in. We and our 2 dogs were warmly greeted, staff very friendly, kind and very attentive even to the point of putting the room heating on early as our room was cold. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble and the staff coped well with a full hotel and all the locals who use the establishment. We are breakfast each morning which was good quality, hot and delicious and an evening meal which was equally good. Bar prices are good and not overpriced as some hotels can be. Guests with dogs eat in the library and the tables are reserved. We met some lovely fellow travellers with dogs who were also impressed with the hotel facilities and locals who were friendly and engaging.

There was nothing we can fault. Whilst it can be a bit noisy if above the library and bar as we were, both nights the noise stopped soon after last orders at the bar so wasn't a problem. If you go to bed early, you might want to ask for a room away from that area.

Located right in the centre and has parking, albeit we’ve stayed twice and not got a place as it’s really just a small parking area. Nice feel, it’s a proper pub feel, nice ales etc and really great food. Our room was a superior one, well appointed, good size and very comfortable. Just one night. Tasty, freshly made breakfast- plenty of options. Oh and very dog friendly- great for us!

Nothing really - if we need an overnight in the area again we will stay there

Couldn't have been happier as we had a six month old puppy with us and every member of staff was amazing with him, the bar was so welcoming and well stocked. The food was so much better than pub grub, more a la carte, a little limited but amazing food. Loved the fact that toiletries stocked in the room were amazing quality but in reusable bottles to aid the planet. Just really enjoyed the whole experience and would highly recommend the King's Head, ideal location and wonderful staff. Thank you for the memories.

Nothing to mention

Comfortable cosy and welcoming hotel with a relaxed and friendly vibe. Obviously a popular spot for the local community. Lively main bar and a quieter library snug'. The restaurant was a pleasant bonus with a balanced menu and excellently prepared dishes, we thanked the chef personally. We're pretty sure that the unusual framed 'Rosemond' print on the wall outside Room 15 used to belong to us many many years ago!

Reaching the second floor with heavy luggage by the wonky old stairs was a bit of a challenge, but having got there it was a pleasant space

The car park was great to have, the room and bed were very big. The bathroom had everything you needed. The breakfast was good, the waitress and bar staff was all great.

Prior to arrival id had a notification my card details were invalid (my card had gone out of date) so i provided upto date details and had a reply they had been received. On arrival i was told again of this as it was still on their system, anyway i paid, the till roll ran out was replaced but they could not privide me with a receipt - normally you can print duplicates - it's not a big problem but i did feel a bit put out at the front desk being told again my card was invalid and then not getting a receipt. The bathroom had lots of exposed pipe work and could have done with regrouting in places.

Everything was great, very friendly helpful staff, breakfast was excellent. The only problem was the WiFi- if you went there for work and needed WiFi I couldn't recommend it. The signal was split over 4 or 5 networks, none of which were strong-even when I managed to get the internet it was scarcely strong enough to send an email-most of the time I couldn't get it at all. We tried laptop, tablet and cell phone, none worked in the room, even in the public areas it was patchy. I did complain to a staff member -she said she would reboot the router-but it didn't help.
