The location of the hotel is ideal for us as we love the peacefulness and views sitting at the top cliffs overlooking the spa. The fanicular lift is right over the road which makes for ease of getting to the seafront. The staff were very friendly and attentive from the moment we set foot in the hotel. My wife is coeliac and we were very pleased to find that the gentleman serving breakfast was very clued up and served up a fantastic GF full yorkshire breakfast and starters. Thank you for a fabulous stay.

TV was losing its signal now and again but no big deal as we weren't in room for any length of time

Lovely leisure facilities, clean, comfortable, and spacious rooms, perfectly cooked meals. Staff went above and beyond their duties to make my stay perfect, always polite, and professional. They helped me with my luggage unloading and loading my car, made sure my bags and cases were taken to my room for me, and even put suction hand rails in the bathroom to assist me because of my mobility issues. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

It's a bit too far out of town for someone with mobility problems. (But the South cliff tram is only at the end of the street leading down to the Spa and beach, also easy access to the beach front bus services)

Clean room with all facilities quiet side street location. Pleasant staff nice breakfast . Parking excellent right outside on street and provided with free disc from hotel. Situated in lovely area 20 minute walk to arcades shops pubs and restaurants via steps ramp or funicular lift which is £2.60 return. Few hotels short walk away with bars and food. Nice view from room overlooking public garden area, sea view to the side. Lovely bar and restaurant.

Room was adequate but compact and no frills . Quite expensive for what it was but there is a gym and pool which I didnt use so guess you pay for them. Would book one of the lovely superior rooms with bay window if I came again as it has sitting area. Could get hot in room but large sash windows which open really wide would be a caution if you had small children.

It’s a family run hotel in the best traditions of Yorkshire hospitality. The room was lovely with a better sea view than anticipated. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The son of the owner clocked that we would be celebrating our anniversary during our stay and moved us to a sea view window seat in the restaurant for the duration. On the night of our anniversary we found the table decorated with flowers, and a complimentary bottle of Prosecco on ice appeared, too! Such a lovely touch. Good EV charging points are available only a couple of streets away, too.

The spa wasn’t as good as we’d hoped. We went in the hot tub, which was nice, but the pool is too tiny for swimming, and gets crowded with only 3 or 4 people! However, overall, no complaints.

Ideally located to explore Scarborough. Room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was really good, the poached eggs were cooked to perfection. The hotel dining area and lounge are beautifully decorated. The spa area could do with a bit of a refurb, but this didn't stop us from enjoying the pool and sauna. All the staff were friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay here again.

The shower wasn't the best, but was clean and functional. I did find the room quite dark once curtains shut when getting ready as we overlooked a main road and gardens, perhaps more lighting would be helpful.

We only stayed for 1 night as we were going to a show at the Scarborough Spa but the location was spot on for the funicular to go down and back up for the hotel and spa. We wanted to enjoy the evening without thinking of driving home. The hotel is a lovely building with wonderful staff, my husband left his wallet in the room and we didn't realise until we got home but as soon as I phoned the hotel I was assured it had been found by housekeeping and was in the safe, they offered to post it back but as we only live half an away we went back to fetch it. Couldn't thank the staff enough for finding it. We had a great breakfast, the parking is street parking but with a permit so no worries about fees. We would recommend the Red Lea Hotel and would definitely stay again.

The view from the room was amazing. Breakfast - the breakfast options were good, and the food was delicious. All apart from one, staff members were friendly The room was spacious (superior double with a view). Close to the tram to get you nearer to the beach.

Plug sockets near the bed were not very accessible. I did not find the bed and pillows comfy. However, it's just my preference. The room could do with a fan, we had to sleep with the window open, which is fine if you don't mind noisy seagulls that don't seem to sleep. The one unfriendly staff member was part of the waiting staff at breakfast on the last day. It did feel like we were an inconvenience. Lift is small.

The Red Lea is an excellent hotel. It's location makes it an easy walk to Scarborough town centre and to the beach. There is no problem with parking, as there are plenty of on street parking spaces in front of the hotel. The reception staff are very welcoming and friendly. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast, with friendly, helpful staff in the dining room. I would highly recommend and will definitely book again.

The only thing I can think of, is nothing special, but I would prefer fresh mushrooms rather than tinned at breakfast, sorry 😐

Everything from booking in to booking out, What guests have to realise is that it's a beautiful old building in an excellent quiet location, so if you want the hustle and bustle and new concrete and plastic try somewhere else. We found it charming and maintained to a good standard but what brought The Red Lea to another level, quite simply " THE STAFF " They were helpful, very friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble to them, we never heard a single "sigh" or saw a frown from any of them. All in all we had a really good stay. We paid a little extra for the rooms at the front "with a sea view" and were glad we did. Not one single whinge from anyone in our party of six ( and that doesn't often happen as they are quite hard to please) So it's 10/10 for the whole stay and a BIG " THANK YOU " to all the staff that made it possible, we will be back soon.

Nothing to moan about, as I said previously, it's an older building and I appreciate what is involved to try and keep things up to a standard and The Red Lea seemed to have that in hand. What I would say, if you find a little niggle, mention it to the management and give them a chance to fix something they may not be aware of. Just a bit of common sense really.

Lovely old hotel with a stunning location. Huge bedroom with a sea view from the big bay windows. Clean and well appointed. Parking right outside, free with a pass from reception. Every member of staff were met was very friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, and efficient. Public areas have been recently redecorated and look very stylish and comfortable. Didn’t get chance to use the swimming pool but it looked clean and attractive. I liked that breakfast was table service rather than a self-service buffet.

Bathroom and bedroom decor was a little dated, although clean. Bathroom although a good size felt a little cramped due to including a full size bath, which most guests don’t require. A large, more powerful, shower would suit most guests better. (Bedroom actually easily big enough to include a roll top bath in the bay, for a more boutique feel!) Breakfast was tasty, but a small portion - not a Yorkshire portion! Would be nice to know local provenance of ingredients, etc.
