The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was nicely prepared and generously sized, although maybe a bit too much for us. We were there on a Friday and Saturday night and although a public house we were not disturbed at all by the customers. It is in a nice quiet country village. The room was generally very clean and all looked to be recently re-furbished. with tea and coffee maker, free drinking water and ample towels etc.. No problem at all with parking

The rooms are not serviced by default but I think you can probably request it. The shower and bathroom looked to be recently installed, but the shower screens leaked and the floor was sticky under foot (needs more washing?). The shower hose leaked at the joint to the head.

The staff are lovely, friendly and go above and beyond to ensure you have the perfect stay. The hotel is modern, bright and the rooms provide a luxurious feel. The restaurant service was exceptional with the food to match. We stayed in the phoenix suit with it's fabulous double sunken spa bath gave that extra special feel to our stay. We celebrated a birthday and our wedding anniversary whilst on our stay and the staff dressed the bed with petals and complimentary prosecco. They also gave us a congratulations card and another bottle of complimentary prosecco to celebrate our anniversary. The staff do so much more than just host, they make your stay the best it possibly can be. The breakfast menu has lots of options and everything is cooked beautifully with the option of hot or cold food. you can have room service if you wish but we enjoyed having it in the breakfast room. The staff again friendly, polite and serving with a smile. The owners of the establishment are on hand and are super friendly and offer a warm friendly smile and have made our stay perfect for us.

There was nothing to not like, this hotel is definitely worth the visit. Everything was fabulous.

Breakfast was well cooked, with a nice choice for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Beds were comfortable, although I found the 'summer weight ' quilt far too warm and slept with just the cover over me. Room was quite warm with only a small window. I liked that you were able to help yourself to fresh milk, bottled water, and tea, coffee and sugar at any time, and without feeling like you had to keep asking, as in some other hotels.

It is a very old building, but it felt weird to walk across the floor, sloping down quite sharply towards the bathroom as it did. Made one feel drunk even when sober! Lol The room also stayed quite bright at night mainly due to the two green fire exit lights that lit the room.

It was so clean and modern, it had lots of lovely little touches, like water, coffee etc in the room, ice machine in reception, a fridge on the landing with extra milk etc ,biscuits and plates and cutlery in case of needing to order food in when the restaurant was closed, very accommodating to all your needs and a beautiful shower room, lovely freshly cooked breakfast in a lovely garden room, decor was lovely, would definitely stay again. Also shutter blinds to windows which looked very nice.room not massive but very adequate for 2 people and the sofa to watch TV was a bonus.

Really enjoyed our stay at Thomas Wright House. We arrived earlier than the check in time and our room wasn't quite ready but we were made very welcome, the lovely lady showed us into the bar and gave us a complimentary drink while we waited. Our room was very comfortable, immaculately clean and some much appreciated extra touches like biscuits and chocolates on the tea tray and more milk in the fridge outside the room if required. Breakfast was abundant and delicious with so much choice, we felt very spoilt. we will definitely stay again if we are in the area.

Nothing to dislike.

Beautiful room. Friendly staff.

Evening meal was spoiled by two different types of music, one coming from the restaurant speaker, and the other from the kitchen radio. It was resolved when I mentioned it to the restaurant staff. Breakfast was a big letdown. We had breakfast in the room. The previous night, we were told we would have a selection of cereals, and pastries delivered, but none arrived. We asked for one breakfast to have poached eggs, but both arrived with poached eggs. We asked for one breakfast to have well done bacon, both arrived with standard bacon. Mushrooms and hash browns both had a strange taste, and seemed to be covered in 'herbs'? Not pleasant. Very disappointing.

Room was more than perfect for one night passing through. Super king for the hubby and I, space for our wee pooch and our 2 year old had the single sofa bed to herself - loved the fact it was HER bed! The staff were lovely, super welcoming. The food was delicious. We popped down for Breakfast and had the fish and chips (huge portion!), and Cumberland sausage (gravy was divine). Breakfast was just as delicious and the set up was just super cute. We stayed over night into Christmas eve, and there was the option for Bucks Fizz at Breakfast and tiny crackers to pop! Perfection. Just ideal to get into the Christ.as mood before we travelled further south

The room was INCREDIBLY hot. We switched off all the radiators and had the window open but we had to still sleep on top of the covers. Other than that (and a few marks on the sheets/towels, though nothing to worry about) it was lovely and would 💯 recommend 👍

Lovely is the word - for the host - very welcoming and passionate about the place. We had both dinner and breakfast at the place - I can tell you, I wasn’t expecting this quality and taste. Excellent and I have already recommended to my friends. I will come and stay again if I am in the area. Dog friendly and brought in a warmer and bowl of water for her the moment we entered the restaurant - shows care. Oh yea, it was nice and clean with a beautiful garden and fantastic views.

Nothing at all !

Spotlessly clean, very new and well kept rooms. Lovely breakfast and friendly staff. The only one thing I will say is the mattress could have been better quality. It was two singles pushed together to make a double which you could feel. Maybe a mattress topper would help with this. Apart from that I cannot fault it. Easy access after hours, friendly staff, great breakfast and spotlessly clean.

This is a very good location for travel around County Durham. It has a village location but is close to major roads and only a short distance to Durham and many other places of interest. I stayed for an 80th birthday meal in the conservatory. Service was very good. Room hire and extra décor were very reasonable. I would recommend this room for a small intermate gathering. The food was excellent. The bedroom was very good for the price being a decent size with adequate room to move around. There was a large walk in shower and the instead of a brush there was a soft plastic tool for the toilet which was much more hygienic. A well stocked tea and coffee tray and water were welcome.

Nothing really but there are a couple of small things that I personally would like and would have warranted an excellent rating like a small box of tissues and larger cups/mugs. The wicker chair wasn't very comfortable which could be improved with a seat cushion and small cushion for the back.
