Perfect accomodation, friendly and service orientated staff. Good vegetarian breakfast, lunch and dinner with plenty choice. Hotel has a good atmosphere. The three star rating for this hotel is not representing the five star hotel and staff.

Great setting, beautiful building, dog friendly, very handy being in the courtyard rooms when it comes to the dogs. Dave doing the breakfast was a legend, and the cooked breakfast was excellent, and loads of alternatives if you don't want cooked, all the staff were very welcoming. Would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay.

We had two issues with the room, first off it was too hot with no visible way to turn the heated towel rail off. The second was the shower, and this is purely thinking of future guests that maybe a bit unsteady on their feet. The shower basin is porcelain (which is great, and rare these days over the cheaper plastic ones), I found it a bit slippery when using it, so suggest a shower mat in the room if someone needs it would be a consideration for the hotel.

Loved the quirky nature of the place.

The reception door was in a strange place. Four was heavy to open. The natural front door for the property isn’t usable. I felt I should enter into the bar area as that was a better access. Need to make it more welcoming especially as people stand there and smoke. It is very dark too. I would like to have been warned that there were a lot of stairs to my room as that wasn’t easy for me. Some decor was a bit tired especially going up the stairs to 32. Needs a bit more dusting ! Great to have the spa but I didn’t need a 2 hr slot. I would have preferred 2 x 1 hr slots- but not possible.

The superior room was spacious, comfortable, and very clean. The cleanliness was very good. The bathroom looked like it had never been used it was so clean. The bed was so comfortable we didn't want to leave! Really loved the history of the place and the room. (We ended up getting a late check out as it was so nice) Staff were pleasant and helpful on arrival, the bar staff, and reception. Breakfast was amazing!! A wide variety of hot choices and continental selection. We chose the hot breqkfast and it tasted amazing, the eggs Royal were fanastic. The staff were really friendly in the morning at breakfast and they were helpful and always smiling.

I was hoping to have a lovely bath, but our room only had a shower, albeit an amazing shower. We were only staying for one night but if it had been longer may have asked to change. Would have liked the spa facilities to be included in the cost of the stay, so we didn't use the facilities this time.

We came up for Kynren, so the Manor was a great location for us. Our dinner was excellent. In the end we didn’t get around to having a spa treatment, but the staff were lovely when we made enquiries. We also enjoyed the Manor House’s slightly later checkout time compared to other places we had stayed during the previous week of our travels In Northumberland 😴

The courtyard is rather a warren and we had quite a few stairs to climb with our suitcases. I guess that’s the “charm” of an older building. 😉 Also our room caught the afternoon sun and was stuffy over night as the window didn’t open very far. And l’d have appreciated a breakfast option for smaller purses/appetites. ❤️

Beautiful hotel, lovely setting, very helpful and friendly staff. Front of house staff, girl from Darlington, absolutely lovely. The original features were superb, and the newer areas were sympathetic with the original house and beautifully done. Bar area with fabulous fireside and breadoven was wonderful. Loved the homely atmosphere and old leather Chesterfield. Lovely outside seating areas. Easy to find, would stay again and highly recommend.

We had a basic twin room, which was fine and nicely presented. A few tweaks it could be perfect. Carpet is not great with stains, one big not cleaned well, and grouting, and the floor in the bathroom needs a bit of a better clean. The timber joist in the bathroom was authentic looking, but in the bedroom area, it could have been done more in keeping with the rest of the hotel. Nitpicking. But may need looking at to make it perfect. The bedside lighting was lovely, great wallpaper, and furniture, but overhead shades looked a little cheap. All of the above could easily be improved, with little effort or cost. It didn't affect our overall stay, and would definitely come again.

The standard of our room was superb in terms of the cleanliness, size and standard of facilities, plus it was at the front of the hotel so the view was super. It was great having a large bathroom and the bed was very comfortable.

A small matter but although a hair dryer was provided, the flex wasn't long enough for the dryer to be used at the mirror. The hotel is being upgraded in terms of some of the public areas and this is definitely needed particularly around the reception area. I'm sure it will be excellent when the work is completed.
