Lee, the man on reception, and his sister (whose name I can't recall, who was on duty the second night), were both exceptionally friendly and welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble. I had never been into this building before, but was aware that it had fallen into some disrepair since its heyday. However, I was blown away by the splendour which is still evident, despite its age. The rooms were very warm, water piping hot, very clean, very comfortable beds and Lee was clearly very interested in the building and its history, having gone there when it was a pub/club in the 90s. This passion was also shared by his sister and the lady to whom I handed my key on the morning after my second stay. These employees are outstanding ambassadors for The George Hotel and I hope that the owner takes note and is made aware of my review, as it is very well deserved.

The fact that this incredible place was so quiet. It should be bustling with residents who can take advantage of the superb way in which Lee and his colleagues run it. My friend had been illegally evicted from his property and I was afraid for his wellbeing. Being unable to stay I'm my own home myself because of its being in disrepair, I was also staying at The George Hotel. We were both very distressed, but the reassuring nature of Lee and his colleagues put us at ease.

We are fond of the live music venues nearby (especially Grumpys bar and the old post office) and the George is well situated. The hotel has so much historical grandeur which is beautiful when you look past the need for TLC.

It's such a shame that the period decor is looking tired and I do wish more people would give this hotel a chance. More staff and some redecoration may then be able to be done. At the moment, there's only 1 or 2 guest services/ reception staff expected to run everything during the shift. They do however put their best into it and their love of the old place shows. I have read many poor reviews by people who really can't see past the surface which is a real pity.

My friend and I stop here to go to live music nights at 1 of several excellent venues within walking distance. I have some mobility issues and need to have as few steps up and down as possible . The room we always request meets my needs perfectly, having a balcony for fresh air, very spacious bathroom with assistance rails on the corner bath, and a pull out bed enabling my choice of friends to have an evening out with to be flexible. I love the,all be it faded, grandeur of this hotel, and the staff on site are always relaxed, friendly and helpful.

The new owner company OYO seem impersonal and devoid of the human touch I have always admired of The George. Also , when I discovered that the George had been bought into a larger group, I had hoped that the potential of the hotel would be brought up to its fullest - with the decor being renewed from the tired state that does not befit such a stunning building. OYO, don't let the hotel down, bring it back to life!!!!

Staff were very friendly, attentive and helpful. I couldn't recommend another hotel as much as I do this one. Will be staying here again in the near future.

There was nothing in particular not to like about this hotel, again, highly recommended. The only bad I had to say was that I wasn't recommended this place sooner.

It was a base for us to visit an ill friend close by. The room was adequate and the staff are really friendly and helpful.

The hotel was lovely, but could do with redecorating. It's a shame, I bet it was gorgeous in time gone by. The mattress was comfortable for the most part, but I think it could do with replacing.

Location. Perfect for singles who just need a bed and bathroom for the night. Football or construction workers.

Nothing to dislike, but a lot of locals talk down the hotel. Can see that many years ago, this would have been a grand hotel.

IFor my needs : travelling to a job (agency) ideal set up for me. Very peaceful night and excellent cheap bus to Crewe Adventures to be had in post industrial Stoke with a heritage theme. I will follow those up later

No lifts which are tricky for big luggage and need to be replaced asap. A Saudi and a builder restorer could work wonders here and it's no good for Hyacinth Bouquet.

How friendly and welcoming the staff are. They do the little things like remembering your name when you come back!

That I haven’t seen the bar or restaurant open. I have physically been through both areas a few times though. Great spaces. LOvE the Ballroom/function room.
