Awesome location, clean, good facilities, friendly staff. It’s classy, historic pub accommodation. Shared bathroom, which was never a problem. Fully stocked kitchen, great sunroom with a view to sit in while having breakfast. Easy walk into town or Salamanca. Absolutely a great choice in Hobart.
Budget room is relatively small. Only a double bed and a chair but it was never a problem. The facilities outside the room were excellent ( bathroom, toilet, kitchen, sun/TV room, dining, bar etc ) and it’s in such a great neighbourhood and so close to town, that you really only want to go into the room to sleep anyway.

The location is excellent and I really appreciated being able to arrive slightly beyond the reception hours. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms and facilities very clean, comfortable and well thought out. Arriving late, it was good to be able to access the kitchen and the bathroom products, lemon myrtle, were beautiful. I appreciated having a radiator in the room as well as the aircon/heater. It really is ideally located in Battery Point with minutes walk to great coffee and restaurants. A very reasonable cost too.
It's always a bit tricky with the stairs and I appreciated assistance with my cases. For rooms without ensuites, it would have been great to have a jug of water and/or a kettle.

Wonderful little pub/ hotel! The pub has been newly renovated meaning the bathrooms, restaurants, bar and whole area is almost brand new. The pub downstairs was lively with locals and tourists mingling, even live music on the public holiday which was a treat. The rooms were nice and comfortable with big windows. A little on the smaller and basic side but this was made up by the lovely bathrooms with hot showers, a full stocked fridge and kitchen to help ourselves too and the beautiful sunroom. Located in battery point was a luxury, with sea views too, I absolutely adored staying here.
Room was a little small but I spent most time wandering around Hobart so wasn’t too fussed!

This hotel is like a living piece of Hobart: with great attention to detail, spotlessly clean rooms, beautiful, brand-new bathrooms, and room service you could only wish for. The atmosphere is warm and authentic – creaky floorboards, delicious smells from the kitchen, and locals meeting up at the bar for a glass of wine. Some reviews mention smells or sounds – but for me, that’s part of the special charm of this place. It smells fantastic and really adds to the character of the location. The bar staff is exceptionally friendly, the food is a real highlight – and the location in Battery Point is perfect for exploring Hobart. A special thanks to Josef – his warmth, attention, and genuine care for the guests made the stay really memorable. He doesn’t just do a job – he makes you feel truly welcome.

it’s a recently renovated historical building, and is decorated fittingly. the room is quite spacious, and has a desk + wardrobe as well as a bed. i stayed in an economy room, so the bathroom was shared, but there was a total of 4 toilets and 2 showers and i didn’t have to wait a single time in my 3 night stay. staff are friendly and accommodating as well! the location is pretty good - you’re not central central but still within easy walking distance of most things. overall, thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and felt this hotel was good value for money!
i visited hobart during a pretty hot period (31 degrees!) and the room was definitely a bit stuffy. easily rectified by opening up the window and letting the provided fan run for a bit though! my window opened directly over the street and didn’t have a fly screen, so i kept it shut with the blinds drawn when i was out of the room.

I stayed for 3 nights. The Shipwrights is a pub/B&B/restaurant, popular with locals and nautical types. it's located in a very pretty and peaceful neighbourhood. It's conveniently placed between Salamanca, (bars restaurants and markets and a short walk to the quayside in Hobart) and Sandy Bay with it's jetties at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. The food was very good, I ate at the bar and in the restaurant and found both to be very good. Breakfast can found a short walk at the Jackman and McRoss Bakery, which I would highly recommend. Upstairs, the rooms are basic but comfortable and clean. There is a guest lounge and a kitchen which was unexpected but welcome. the one corridor has toilets and showers on it, which were fresh and clean. The staff were very good, friendly, and remembered you. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the bar, listening to the banter of the locals and watching the cricket on the 2 TV screens. They had a good selection of beers and ciders. I would recommend that you book early to avoid disappointment.
In and ideal world I would have preferred an ensuite toilet and shower but, that would require a huge redevelopment and the the cost would have to reflect in the room rate, It was clearly stated that it was a shared bathroom before I booked the room, and I'm only saying this because I had to say something.

The hotel is in a great location near the city's waterfront. It is fully renovated and in good condition. It is tasteful and a grown up backpackers. I really like the atmosphere. It's friendly and can interact with others staying there in the small living spaces. Meals, drinks, and band downstairs. Good hooks, shelves, and benches for your stuff. Even though small spaces, if it has hooks and shelves, it's ok. It is priced appropriately. Very clean. Helpful staff. Help yourself toast breakfast and hit drinks. Casual which works.
I asked for a twin room in the comments section but this wasn't seen by the hotel, and it was a small room with one bed. As I was unwell my friend slept on the floor on her camping mat, which was ok. We could have arranged a trundle bed too.

This is our second stay and it's still a great location for low price but since they've renovated all the rooms and bathrooms, it's even nicer. The staff were lovely. We could cook meals and they give you breakfast things. Lovely view from the breakfast room. And easy walking distance to city. Sharing bathroom was no issue at all.
The pub noise and kitchen aromas from downstairs can be a little offputting but you are insulated from it once you close the bedroom door. We are early to bed and weren't disturbed by it.

My partner and I stayed for two nights in the budget queen room. We honestly had a fantastic experience. We booked a room without our own bathroom, but there were three shared bathrooms/toilets so we never had to wait. The facilities and rooms were very clean, newly renovated and decently sized. There was a small kitchen with complimentary tea and coffee, cereal, milks, bread and Vegemite - perfect for a light breakfast in the little sun room. The building was quaint and historical with an old fashioned pub downstairs as well as a more modern restaurant area. The manager was extremely friendly and accommodating. He made us feel very welcome. We had a couple of fantastic salads in the restaurant downstairs on our first night after a long day of travel (we had already eaten earlier). The Inn is conveniently located in Battery Point, which is a gorgeous little neighbourhood set back a little from the waterfront. If you are walking from the waterfront, it's a little bit uphill but is no problem unless you have mobility restrictions. When we were there (early November), there were so many roses blooming which pleasingly scented our walks.
Nothing, really, but if I could make a suggestion, perhaps hooks or a towel rack in the room would be helpful.

Our budget room was above the bar so we had some lovely jazz until around 11pm which was not at all disruptive. The room was recently renovated and we were in Room 9 which is right next to the shared bathroom (no sounds through the shared walls). Breakfast was continental style from the kitchen on the same floor and had loads of bread for toast, condiments, full cooking facilities.
No coat hangers in the room. No room in the bedroom to hang our towels (lucky we only stayed the one night) and we didn't feel hanging these in a communal bathroom was appropriate. Not enough mugs for tea but that's being very picky!
