The room was unique and huge. Fire place was great, even though it took a long time to figure out the air suction on the flew. No note. The bathtub was great. Old world charm. Pretty cool. Would stay again.
The staff was pretty aloof. I stood there for 7 minutes at one point, while an employee played on his phone without looking up. I finally had to interrupt him. Asked to get wood sent up to my room. It never showed up. There was an exception of one long haired blonde girl who was fantastic and very helpful!!! Also the wood thing was a little annoying. Free wood the first night. Decided to stay another night, charged a deposit again, $10.00 for a tiny pile of wood.

If you want to experience downtown Victoria, the location is perfect. It is an easy walk to Chinatown in one direction and The Empress in the other. The hotel is surrounded by restaurants, pubs, shopping, and the wharf area.
Being downtown, parking can be a problem. They have arrangements with a private secured parking facility but it is too secure. A fob is needed to get in and out after hours and on weekends. The hotel has only 2 so if one is available when you need it, it must be returned immediately. The public parking facility is convenient but extremely busy so it may not be possible to find a spot on the weekend.

The location was perfect as it was close to many of the sites we wanted to see. The staff were very friendly. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. Having coffee, tea, and a fridge in the room were added perks as was the tea/coffee bar in the lobby. Merchies tea and bakery located in the hotel was a great place to grab a coffee, sandwich, dessert, or salad.
The street cleaners that started cleaning Bastian Square very early in the morning (prior to 5:00 am) woke us up and we couldn’t go back to sleep. The pub with the live music was loud but we were still able to fall asleep with it. We were tired.

Mostly everything: location, staff, the building itself. It is a quaint, older boutique hotel located in the middle of Victoria's entertainment district with easy access to touristic attractions, dinning and transportation. The room prices at this hotel are very fair for what is offered in terms of location. The staff is competent and friendly.
Well, if I have to complain about something, it is the shower space. The space in the shower cabin was too small, at least for me (a relatively big person). Indeed, since this is how the building was initially designed, there is nothing that can be done in this regard.

The hotel is within an easy walk of the downtown harbor, The Empress, and the Royal BC Museum. The street in front of the hotel is closed to vehicular traffic, so it’s filled with street musicians, and there are a wide assortment of shops along the street. Restaurants and pubs surround the hotel, so there are lots of choices close by to grab a bite to eat or a pint to drink.
There is no vehicle parking on the premises, so the hotel is better for guests arriving on foot or like I did, by bike. However, the elevator is very small and was difficult to get my bike in and out of. The air conditioner was a little awkward to use. it’s an old hotel built in the early 1900s, so the rooms are somewhat small but adequate.

I loved the fact that the Bedford is an older building with a history. The location was excellent, easy to find and close to everything we wanted to see. The room was large and comfortable.
The sliding pocket door to the bathroom was difficult to use; it stuck in its tracks and was hard to close from inside the bathroom. The bathtub was so deep that it was difficult for someone with limited mobility to get in and out of.

Each room is unique and I really enjoyed the old aesthetic of the hotel! The location is right on government street and therefore almost everything is within walking distance! We found this place to be absolutely reasonably priced especially compared to all the other ones around and how awesome the location is! It's not a facy place by any means but it is comfortable and clean and charming.
We were pretty pleased with our entire experience

Location. Close to everything you need as to info, drinks, food and transport (bus stop Douglas@Fort St.) Room with 2 kingsize beds. We were aware of earlier negative reviews, but found the hotel more than acceptable. A bit old fashioned perhaps, but carpets in room and corridor were clean, room ceiling & walls freshly painted, beds comfortable, windows soundproof to minimize nearby street noise.
Somewhat overpriced according to European standards, which is actually true for most accommodation in Alberta and BC. A tax supplement of 16% doesn't help.

You can’t beat the location, and our room had everything we needed, the cleaning staff was really nice, the rooms inside the courtyard don’t have any street noise. I also like the bathroom had a window that opened.
The elevator is a little slow, they didn’t have an additional lock latch on the inside of the rooms which I tend to find more comfortable, I’m also a bit surprised they don’t have a breakfast bar of any kind, could have been better perks for the price of the room.

The Staff were very kind & friendly at all times, very accommodating & courteous. The proximity to everything was fantastic & easy for a Solo Female Traveller.
The cost was expensive for a Solo Traveller who likes to be located centrally for safety reasons in cities & feeling safe walking around at night.
