Lovely volunteers that were very friendly and trying to connect with everyone and make you feel welcome. Really nice and chilled vibe. Family dinners were easy to connect with people but also very tasty and healthy (always a salad and vegetables). Good happy hour options. Facilities were cleaned daily. Dogs were well behaved and cute. Right at the lake front, next to the boats.

There were 2 bathrooms for a dorm of 8 people, a single person room and three double person rooms. So if 2 people shower, the rest had to find a different toilet. Not ideal, but hostel life I guess. Also it's quite noisy with music from the neighbours until 23.00, tuctucs racing past and you could hear every leaf falling or bird walking on the rooftop. The bed of the 1 person room was slightly crooked so i felt like i was rolling to the left side often. Not a problem for me, but if that would keep you up at night, you should find a more peaceful hotel to stay

The location is beautiful and a great, laid-back atmosphere is created at the bar area and during the family-style dinners. The restaurant has a lot of tasteful food and drink options at reasonable prices. We booked the Luxury Suite which has a great view over the lake and a nice terrace with a.o. a hammock. We would come back.

Although Iguana Perdida offers (and charges for) more ‘luxurious’ rooms, we felt that the standard did not meet the price we paid (around €95 per night). The bed sheets had stains in them, there are no toiletries other than anti-bacterial hand soap, the room was not cleaned everyday, the room is maybe a little outdated (very squeeky bed, old sheets and pillows, outdated bathroom, etc.) but this may be part of the Guatemalan style. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay.

Came here based on recommendations of other travellers and we absolutely loved it as our base on the lake. It’s conveniently located in front of the Santa Cruz pier (the views are incredible and it’s easy and convenient to jump on a boat to another village), the staff are nice and helpful, there are lots of daily social activities (some paid, some free), the vibes are super chill, there’s a laundry service, and the rooms & bathrooms were clean/cosy. We did the family dinners twice and had a fun time mingling with other travellers.

Something to keep in mind is the public boats around Lake Atitlan stop running around 5/5.30pm, so if you don’t want to take a private boat after hours, you have to be back in Santa Cruz by nightfall. And Santa Cruz is quite quiet and doesn’t have many options for dinner. That said, it’s great if you’re after a quiet and chill place to stay after day trips out

I was searching for some downtown after a hectic few weeks of travel. The location was ideal for me as the boat dock is right beside entrance, and it was a pretty sleepy area after nightfall. The staff are incredibly helpful and the family dinners were amazing. I found that this was one of the more social hostels I visited, partially due to wifi only being available in a small section.

Headsup to future bookers - you're pretty much locked into either hostel on the lakeshore at Santa Cruz after nightfall which was a welcome break for me (no boats; steep uphill to locality - as a solo traveller I wouldn't go at nightfall). I also woke up with a creak in my neck one morning as there are some gapes in the wooden panelling in the hut I stayed in - I was also grateful to have additional blankets as it was quite cold at night.

A lovely hostel with lovely staff. The food served was fantastic and not too expensive. The location is very convenient to get to, right beside the boat dock. On-site activities were cool. The grounds were nice, with lots of space to lounge outside. The outdoor area was a great place to read and to watch storms across the lake. Easy to walk up or take a tuk tuk into Santa Cruz la Laguna town.

This is not the hostel's fault, but it is right beside the boat dock and the main road. My room was right beside the road and it was quite noisy. It wouldn't stop me from staying there again because the hostel was lovely, but something to note if you are very noise sensitive.

The staff, the facilities looked great, the yoga room, the restaurant / bar. The vibes were amazing, the staff was very helpful and friendly, the toilets clean, great food and drinks. The location could’t be better

Our room wasn’t particularly nice compared to the rest of the hostel, the bed wasn’t very comfortable, but it wasn’t too bad. I didn’t like that if paying with card they charge 8% more, even when we provided our card number on booking we had to go to get cash to avoid that extra 8% since we had a fixed budget.

The location was great. Lots of interesting people to chat with. Our kids (teenagers) loved the family style dinners meeting other travellers.

There was no hot water for 1 day, but this affected the whole village and was not the fault of the hotel. Despite the backpacker style, the hotel is not cheap and both the credit card option and the dollar exchange rate come up to loosing some money. Best option is to exchange lots of quetzales before.

My favourite hostel that stayed in throughout my Guatamalian trip. Did think may be bit isolated as boats stop at 5pm but couldn't be more wrong. Family dinners were amazing and bought everyone together of all ages. All the activities laid on every night from quiz to open mic were great fun where everyone joined it. Perfect location right on the water. Great facilities and loved like it was set amongst the jungle with plants and trees everywhere. The whole ethos of the place was one of a big family which was sooo cool.

Everything - it is super conveniently located and has stunning views!!! The rooms are affordable and really cute inside. The balcony’s were great. The hostel activities were so fun and the family dinners were the best we’ve had of our 6 month trip!!! The volunteers are all amazing and it seemed like a great place to volunteer as well! We liked it so much we extended our stay and came back again!

You can hear a lot through the wooden walls but it didn’t stop us from returning and still rating it 10/10 :)

Santa Cruz is a very quiet town in Lagos atitlan. La iguana Perdida is a great hostel. The people are very friendly and helpfull. You will feel at home right away! We also did a fun dive at the lake with a very kind and helpfull dive instructor who did everything to make us feel comfortable. We joined the shared dinner 2 times and it was delicious. Always with a veggie or other diets possibility. I would really recommend it! The rooms where very comfortable, spacious and clean!
