Beautiful Ryokan. The onsen was top notch and the views were immaculate. Not too busy when we went and I got to soak in a public bath with no one around. It was a private bath both night and day. After all the people you encounter everywhere in Japan, this was a great way to relax and be at peace. You do not wear shoes in the ryokan at all so you know the floor is super clean. The food and service was delicious. Mainly they give both dinner and breakfast!!! The view of the Ryokan was just beautiful. Breathtaking even when it is raining.
You have to take a bus or call a taxi to get here. You can walk it is only 15 min from the station but there are a lot of hills and the roads have a lot of fast cars. It is walkable but you will tire yourself out; It was a hike getting to the place. The rooms were very small and they did not set the bed for you. The elevator was super small. They do have instructions on how to do it though. They do open and close the Rokan door at midnight till 5 am so I don't think it's for people who like to adventure out at night.

The whole experience was great! The hotel is clean and the staffs are extremely friendly , from the man standing at the entrance to the lady at the reception. We felt welcome! Our dinner and breakfast were full of surprises. We took a lot of pictures and impressed by the staffs meticulous attitude towards their guests with perfection. Our family enjoyed our stay and felt very welcomed by their hospitality.
Is opposite cemetery.

Absolutely wonderful Ryokan. The staff was very welcoming and caring and the japanese style rooms with a view on the mountains are wonderful. You really get a good Ryokan experience with a night on futons on tatamis. The hotel is quite small (only 18 rooms) so the common resting and bath areas are very calm. The common bath is not very big but totally sufficient and it has a very nice outdoor bath. I had it all for myself late in the evening and in the morning before breakfast. There are however no bathroom in the room (only a sink and a toilet) so you have to use the common bath which is the point if you want to stay in a Ryokan but it might be a challenge for the most shy people. The evening meal and breakfast were also very good. The food was delicious and the quantities were perfect. The hotel also has 2 private baths on the top of the hotel that you can use during 45 minutes for 2200 Yen. I highly recommend to use it during your stay, they are also wonderful. You can book it at the reception during your check in to have the best availabilities. Free water, coffee and tea is provided in the common resting area. The last very positive point about this hotel is its accessibility. It is only 10 minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto Station that is a few stops from JR Odawara station where the Shinkansen stops. There is however quite a steep slope to climb just before getting to the hotel, so it might be a bit challenging if you have very big luggage. An overall great stay that I would definitely like to do again.

Very clean and the family room was spacious. The staff and services were top notch. The food was amazing, Traditional Japanese Kaiseki style. Food might not be suitable for non-Japanese kids though. The kashikiri onsen was great and the views were awesome. The drinks in the fridge were part of the service. The yukatas were also nice. The Odawara plum cider was also delicious.
The location is not too far from the train station but for kids and older adults, it may be hard to walk to because of the hill you have to climb. Recommend taking a taxi.

For anyone who loves Japanese food - the set meals were marvelous! The fish was really fresh, so good. But if you are vegetarian or vegan one should make the reservation without the set meals or talk with the staff beforehand. Also one could visit the public onsen with a tattoo
it was hard to drop the temperature in the room with the air conditioner.

Kintouen is a very relaxing ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). It is quiet, the staff is eager to help, the food is of high quality and you get plenty of it (our dinner was made of 8 different dishes + fruits for dessert). We booked the private onsen (hot bath) on the rooftop for an additional fee and it was totally worth it. The Japanese-style room was comfortable and spacious. The view on the nearby forest and mountains was great to enjoy with a cup of green tea. We stayed only one night but it felt like a deep rest for our bodies and minds. The area is also great for people who enjoy nature. I strongly recommend Hakone and this hotel for recharging your batteries during what is likely a very active and sometimes stressful trip in Japan for most tourists.
We arrived at noon and the hotel was closed. Thankfully we just had backpacks so we went on with our day and came back before 5PM for check-in. Be mindful of opening hours if you don't want to be left stranded.

This was a really nice traditional Japanese hotel experience. We loved the room, the kimonos provided, the fabulous food (half board), the friendly service and the onsen experience. You can book a private onsen for 45 mins if you want to go in as a couple. You have to pay, but it's not too much (just over 2000 yen if I remember rightly).
Nothing at all to dislike but just a word for others to consider when booking. It was a bit odd not to have a shower in the room, which meant taking the lift to the shared bathroom for even a quick morning wash. To be fair we knew this when we booked (I believe more expensive rooms have their own facilities) but we hadn't thought about the practicalities until we were there.

Quiet, clean hotel with pleasant lounge, public onsen. The bath on the balcony outside our room was lovely.
I asked the management before we arrived if they could accommodate my pork/beef allergy - they said yes - then reminded the waiter at dinner about my allergy when we arrived...then got served a hot pot platter with a bunch of vegetables sitting on top of slices of pork. They took it away and substituted a plate without pork when I complained, but it made the rest of the meal pretty nerve-wracking - what was I not seeing? Please don't say you can accommodate allergies if you don't understand how to deal that.

I loved that Kintoen was a no-shoes ryokan and that we do not wear shoes - it feels ultra relaxing and clean. Thank you for your thoughtfulness - opening our umbrellas in the early morning for them to dry, having a heated mat beneath our feet during meals, the meals were both spectacular as well - especially the rice. The generous beverages for us to enjoy were also so enjoyable. Thank you so much.
I loved everything about our stay. The only thing I didn't like was the coconut jelly at breakfast. I don't think it was harmonious with the light and elegant nature of the meal.

We got a Japanese style room that was superb, just like we wanted - the views to the mountain were a plus. We used the shared onsen but we were alone in the afternoon, they have a bath outdoors which was really nice. Not the best onsen we have been considering the price but it was good. We had dinner and breakfast included, dinner was good with a mixture of fish, soba and other dishes. The breakfast had loads of dishes, fresh cooked fish, tofu, vegetables, rice and a bento box with pickled stuff that we have been struggling to appreciate... we could not finish it which was a shame but it was a lot of food.
The place is in a hill so be prepared to climb or get a taxi
