What a wonderful ryokan experience! The place is absolutely beautiful and is only a 700 yen taxi or 200 yen bus ride from the Hakone station. It was our first time staying at a ryokan, and we were a little nervous about following all of the customs correctly. The staff were incredibly accommodating and they made sure that someone was always available who could speak to us in English (totally above and beyond what we expected). The room was clean and comfortable. Our room had shared onsen access, all onsens were absolutely lovely. They had gender specific onsen, a mixed gender outdoor onsen (you wear a towel in the water), and a private onsen that you can book for 30 minutes during your stay. All were incredible! The food was also delicious and plentiful. The staff member laid everything out for us and explained each food. We then had as long as we needed to eat privately in our room, which was nice and relaxing after the hustle and bustle of Tokyo eateries. This is an amazing value and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a traditional ryokan experience!

The baths are really nice. It’s really special to have the outdoor mixed gender bathing, looking over Hakone. There was so much food, for dinner and for breakfast. They also give you lots of extra rice (which we couldn’t even eat cos we were beyond stuffed at every meal) so there is 0 chance you will go hungry. The food was very diverse, seasonal and tasty. They also had yukatas that fit tall people.

The hotel is a bit of a walk. If you take main roads, it’s like 30 minutes +, and if you take the spooky little forest way that goes by the shrine, maybe 50+ minutes? Google doesn’t know about elevation. Or luggage. Or avoiding spiderwebs. I personally don’t mind the walk, but I can see it being hard for others. Maybe arrange a cab if you have a luggage case.

Everything was wonderful - great rooms, amazing dinner and breakfast, the onsen was great - both the private and the public baths!

All was good - the hike from the bus station to Yusakaso was a bit long (850m, but all of it uphill). But other than that, no complaints!

This was my first time staying at a ryokan, and I got exactly what I was hoping for and more. I arrived around 3PM and the staff was very friendly; I'm working on learning Japanese and tried to speak it exclusively, but the staff was happy to accommodate English as well if that's a concern for you. The two main reasons I wanted to visit a ryokan was for the onsens and the in-room food, and both were fantastic. There's indoor baths divided by gender as well as a private onsen that you have the ability to reserve for 30 minutes, but the outdoor, mixed-gender bath was by far the highlight for me. I bathed in the outdoor bath 3 times - once in the afternoon, once at night, and once right at the sunrise. It's an incredibly peaceful location, and 2 of the 3 times I had the onsen all to myself. As for the food, I was really happy with both dinner and breakfast. You get a wide array of dishes and the hospitality of the server is a real treat as well. There's a lounge in the ryokan, but I spent all of my time in my room relaxing so I don't have any comments on that. As a solo traveler the price was a bit of a splurge, but if you're traveling with 2 or more the value is great.

The walls were a little thin so I could hear a family with some younger children at some points, but it wasn't a huge issue.

The service was excellent - particularly the lady that helped set up the meals. The communal baths were not crowded. Bath towels were provided for women in the communal bath. The meals were aesthetic and generally tasty. The tea provided in the room was very nice.

The meal wasn’t served in as many courses as I expected. Although I enjoyed the meal, I thought that it would be more like kaiseki. The locker room was a bit outdated and old. I wish there was skin products provided in the room, but I got what I needed from the women’s changing room.

Lovely Japanese rooms with tatami floor and comfortable futons. Handy to have a section in the room with dividing doors for the grown ups to relax in after the kids have gone to bed. Great onsen facilities, including bookable private onsen, and a mixed gender outdoor pool, great for families! The changing areas all had baby change equipments and the private onsen changing area also had kids body washes. Staff were so lovely and went out of their way to help us with everything we needed. They provided a mini chair for the baby for mealtimes, and our 5 year old were provided with kids cutlery and a child yukata to wear, as well as children’s slippers for in the ryokan. There was also a kids playroom available. The meals were exemplary as were the sake with our evening meals.

Nothing.

Extremely friendly and professional staff Experience in staying in a real traditional ryokan run by the family Very clean And of course kayseki meals! OMG it was soo good Onsen 🍃

The location is up the hill. Be ready that the hotel doesn’t have its own transfer (they use merged bus with other hotel to take people from and to the train station only few times a day, so ask the hotel in advance for this service, which must be paid by the customers) A little bit outdated facilities and rooms

The outdoor mixed onsen is the best part of this ryokan. The lighting at night is great - quite dark and atmospheric, providing a nice level of comfort to be in a mixed onsen. They provide a bath towel for women to wrap themselves in but my partner felt comfortable enough not to need it. It becomes a women only outdoor onsen between 8-9pm, and then men only after midnight (“for safety”). But no guests were in there at all after midnight. It seems like access to the onsen is basically 24/7 for guests which is amazing!

We told them ahead of time that we are usually vegetarian but are eating fish while in Japan. They kindly prepared a meat free dinner and breakfast, but it was very fish heavy. I should have requested full vegetarian but I think perhaps it would be difficult for them to accomodate that. The food was very good but we struggled to finish the very generous portions!

My partner and I loved the traditional dinner and breakfast that was served in our rooms, we weren’t expecting it and the woman who brought it to us was so sweet. We loved both the public and private onsen, and appreciated the women only hours. This was such a special experience and one of the highlights of our trip.

Everything was great!
