- Nice location: within 8 ninutes walk from Hakone Station, easy to locate, so very convenient for family travellers with kids, especially in the case of late arrival in a day - Comfortable and sizable room: traditional ryokan room but very comfortable given its size and facilities. The in-room onsen with the mountain view is definitely the highlight and it was really the unforgettable experience that we could enjoy onsen anytime we wanted, like before breakfast, right after we came back, or even at mid-night. - Meals are definitely a bonus to our stay: we will for sure come back to book the same hotel just bcz of the meals.

Nothing particular

Traditional Ryokan property, traditional Japanese meals, helpful and friendly staff. Good location, not too far from train station

As with most older Ryokans we have stayed in, it could do with a little TLC and a good dust…we’ve come to understand that’s part of the experience of these old traditional inns though….but the price we paid here is up there with some the higher end newer ryokans so they need to match those levels really

1. The location is 1 bus stop away from the hakone yumoto station, ie 10mins walk distance. 2. Our room came with dinner and breakfast and both meals were not too bad. I enjoyed breakfast more tbh. There is a restaurant beside the Ryokan if you do not enjoy the meals or doesn't suit your taste. 3. There are public and private reserved onsen. 4. They also have a vending machine.

1. The whole place smells mushiness, and I have a sensitive nose, so I didn't sleep well. 2. They only accept payment by CASH. Strictly no cards. 3. The room is different from what I booked. I booked an open air onsen with a huge window, but it turned up to be a small window instead.

The overall experience felt like I was staying with a host family, my home away from home! I really appreciated the omotenashi from the front desk host and Ms. Tanako-san. I had wonderful brief conversations with them and was able to practice my Japanese. Had a couple of laughs with Tanako-san too, shes so lovely - im glad i met her!She and the front desk gentleman were so very polite, kind, friendly, hospitable and accommodating to all our needs. My suitcase was quite heavy but the gentleman (who said he was 70 years old), carried my suitcase up the stairs! Absolute world class service. You can tell they put a lot of care in the maintenance of the place. It really felt like i was living in the Edo period, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The room was just beautiful and peaceful with the open air onsen and the kaiseki meals were delicious, well-balanced and great variety. Thank you so much Yaeikan!

Nothing to critique, I really enjoyed my experience.

March 2023

this was our first Ryokan experience, and it was great! We had 7 people in a room, but it was spacious enough even for our big group. The private onsen in our room was nice and hot, the dinner and breakfast were amazing, and the floor beds were surprisingly comfortable. It's in a great location, walking distance from lots of restaurants and shops and to the Hakone Yumoto train station. The staff is friendly (although hard to communicate at times as they do not speak English well) but that wasn't a problem for us. They were super helpful when we were running late from our Mt Fuji sight-seeing and thought we were going to miss our train to Kyoto. I was able to call them when we were on the way back and they pre-called taxis for us to be there when we got back to take us to the Odawara Station. We wouldn't have made our train in time if not for their help with that! Overall was a great experience and I definitely recommend staying here.

This was an absolutely amazing experience for us as first timers in Japan. The room was much larger than expected with a sauna and huge shower, plus everything was pristinely clean. The public onsen were beautiful and very relaxing. Staff couldn’t have been more friendly.

The food was a real experience for us with a traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner included in the price of our stay. Unfortunately we are not big fish eaters so take this into account if you plan on booking, however what we did eat was delicious and a real experience of being served food in this way

Ryokan minutes walk from main shopping street and train station. Very convenient location. You can also catch the bus to various hakone attractions from the shopping street. Staff told us Ryokan was a 100 year old building but it's very well kept and maintained. The Ryokan really provided relaxing break from the usual metropolitan hotels. .

Maybe because it was a traditional Ryokan, the toilet attached to the room did not have warm water. Had to use freezing cold tap water to wash hands and brush teeth, unless you go downstairs to the public onsen with bathing facilities.

Its location. Food was excellent. It’s as traditional as you can get.

It’s a bit dated, but room and onsen, but kept clean. Of course, no elevator for big luggage - you would have to carry it yourself up to the third floor - staff will not help for some reason/policy, I guess.

The place is in walking distance from the station (~10 min). Private bathroom was on the same floor and had a lock so we were very clean. Also ryoukan has a common bathroom and a timeslot bathroom (you're signing for 40min slots when checking in). Breakfasts (~at 7:30, 8:00, 8:30) & dinners (~at 18:00, 18:30, 19:00) were nutritious, varied and, of course, traditional. We (4 people) stayed in a big room ("Akane") with a separator in the middle, so our futons were comfortably placed like 2+2. The view to the mountain from the window during breakfast was facinating and really breathtaking during the night.

Staff mostly doesn't speak english, but we did not need much and were able to figure out everything by using a translator. Of course be ready to pay in cash. And your bags will be delivered to the room during check-in, but we had to bring them back downstairs (~3 floors) ourselves. And no elevator there for sure, so be ready to do a little hike inside the building if you room is high enough.

Traditional Japanese room with comfortable futons and pillows was spacious enough for 2, overlooked stream as requested, easy walk to station Food was very good, too plentiful, we had breakfast & dinner for 3 nights, different Japanese kaiseki dishes each meal Staff were a mixture of older Japanese and younger Nepali, did speak good English, Jyonti who served our meals in our room was very good. They provided chairs with ( short) legs when asked.

No shower in room, ladies onsen too small ( did alternate times with men) and seemed to be used by staff making it more cramped Furnishings old and chipped and need replacing (the charges surely could cover some updates) You can experience traditional Japanese ryokan of similar or better quality for a more reasonable price in less touristy areas Why do so many ryokan charge an extra cash onsen fee when you check out ( and not make it part of the room charge?)
