We stayed in 2 rooms with our family of 4. Close walking distance to the station. We forwarded our luggage to Kyoto and only traveled with small backpacks which worked perfectly. Once we got to the hotel we wore the wonderful yukata and pj’s, and all the bathroom amenities were divine. The onsen on the patio was lovely. The dinner was fun- definitely add the shabu shabu option. It was the highlight. Overall super fun stay and ideal for one night.

The hotel needs to improve their coffee and tea options! They made way too big of a deal of only serving one cup at breakfast and only if you select the coffee option. Only instant coffee available in the rooms. The place is way too high end to skimp out on good and flowing coffee in the morning!

Kind and helpful staff, excellent service, comfortable bed and faboulous private onsen.

It's not especially close to anything, you would have to take one or two buses to get near the lake and see the sights. In our case, the weather was awful so it didn't matter much - we ended up dtaying in and enjoying the onsen!

Great to have a private hot spring bath with the room which is the highlight of the stay and the room is of good size. English speaking staff and food is good

Abit of walk from the property to the hotel with a steep upslope

Nice view of mountains (not Fuji), peacefull neighbourhood. Get welcome drink, at entrence need to take off your shoes and u wont get it back untill u leave. So its clean inside aswell. Ull get a yukata to weae for dinner and/or breakfast which is nice and most/all? Rooms have a private onsen. personel al very friendly and make u feel comfy. They make up ur bed during dinner time.

Location is hard to reach without a taxi.. very steep hill. We had 2 dinners the first dinner was horrible but the next days it was really good. I dont know if they have a different cook in the weekend but the food was good during the weekend :). The rooms dont have a lock, or it does but not one to keep the hotel workers out. Personally i didn’t like that, would love a lock to use during night to sleep.

Very welcoming staff that spoke good English. The property had a very Indonesian feel to it hence the name Balinese. We spent one night there that included a full course dinner and breakfast which was good. Our room was pretty big and had it's own private Onsen with view of the mountain side which was awesome. Very easy to get to. We got the Shinkansen from Kyoto to Odawara, changed to the local Hakonetozan line to Hakone Yumoto and walked to the property which is on top of a hill so be warned. It's about 15min straight walk but we took our time to look around and take pictures.

There was no convenient electric outlet to charge our phones. That's about it....

We liked the initial interactions from the staff and how friendly they were. Welcomed with a drink and sat in the lounge whilst enjoying the sounds of the water. Our room was clean and to the tastes we wanted as of the Japanese theme. Everything had seemed to be thought through with the design such as the location of the shower room by the onsen and products available. The onsen ran at a consistent warm temperature meaning we could use it anytime we liked. The bar area with the aquarium had a nice ambient feel to it as we enjoyed a few drinks. Beds were made by the staff and extremely comfortable. The morning Japanese breakfast is a must if you stay. We slept very well during our brief one night. We were slightly disappointed we didn't stay longer. Thanks to the staff for their attention to detail and being friendly with us.

We would've liked to order food whether it be snacks or a traditional Japanese dinner at the hotel. But the service wasn't available at the time. Maybe a heater in the outdoor area for at night in the rooms terrace

The entire package with breakfast, dinner, and your private "ofuro" bath was superb. You really get the feel of the old traditional Japanese style hotel. The breakfast and dinner was incredible, so much food! The meals are exquisite, presentation is amazing, and the taste is devine. Property location is very close to the main train station (Yumoto). I would recommend a taxi, if you have a lot of luggage. There's a short section that's a pretty steep climb. It's not a difficult walk, if it's leisure and no luggage.

Communication. Staff does not speak much English, so some things do get lost in translation. Also, check out time is very early, 10:00am. I recommend arriving early, store your bags at the hotel, and spend the day in town exploring the little shops.

The Ryokan is in a good location, close to the downtown part of the city and the train station. The private onsen was so nice and the room and hotel was beautiful. The staff was really accomodating and friendly.

The room really needs some repairs. The door handles to the balcony were stiff and hard to open, one of the cabinet doors in the bathroom fell off because it wasn't screwed in, the wallpaper was peeling off the ceiling.. Many other small things, but altogether made the room feel cheap. For the price per night, you would expect the place to be taken care of better.

The private onsen was amazing, our room was spacious, clean and had plenty of amenities. The private dining area was great, on the second night we had beef shabu which was the best meal we ate here. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The property is also conveniently located just 10-15 mins walk from Yumoto station, with a bus that stops just outside so no need to carry our luggage up the hill.

The food was a bit mixed, we loved the experience of the traditional Japanese meals however some dishes were not to our taste.

The whole experience was wonderful - the room, the private onsen, the meals were great, and the staff were very friendly. The 8-course dinner was Japanese style. Obviously there were some dishes that were not my favourite, but it was fun to try what was provided to you and even if I didn't love something after trying it I certainly didn't go hungry - the portions were very generous. We did not ever use the public onsen so I can't comment on it, but the private onsen alone makes it worth the cost in my opinion.

It's not a super steep hill to climb up to the ryokan, but when you get to Hakone you learn that pretty much everything is uphill, so be prepared for that! We just had backpacks so it was easy to make our way up there, but you may struggle if you have multiple large rolling suitcases.
