Beautiful hotel. Great rooftop pool. Special and mystical spa in the basement. Fantastic city location.

Walls are thin. If you get room 219, you are next to the floor “office”, which will be noisy, you should ask to change. During my stay, ventilation AC system was limited. This is because of local regulation to preserve power and not the hotel’s fault, but it would have been nice to be warned by the hotel before. The room was hot with little air.

Beds are extremely comfortable. Pool and rooftop bar is enjoyable. Towels and changed and room is cleaned daily. They provided weighing scales for suitcase travelling in the reception. Gave a lovely complimentary gift for staying with them. The reception looked after our suitcases for the afternoon after we checked out.

Does not have iron in the room and slow service when we asked for them. Did not replenish english tea bags everyday even after we asked. Rusty taps, leaking shower, horrible smell from the drains and cracked bathtubs. Location is next to church and the bells go off early morning and late night which interrupts your sleep. Smell in the reception was very strong and not very nice. TV did not work.

The staff were excellent and very thoughtful. One day when we came back to the room we interrupted the cleaners, who quickly finished up but came back again later the same day to see if we wanted any further cleaning done. The staff provided free drinks to the room a couple of times (a choice of three cocktails) which was a lovely surprise, and gave us a free bottle of cava on our final night to thank us for staying. These small thoughtful details were the cherry on top of a wonderful stay. The spa facilities are fantastic and the room very comfortable, spacious and clean.

It was difficult to find room to sit on the roof terrace, particularly around the pool, but this is to be expected during the busy summer period and I believe you can book a table in advance. The view of the 'inner courtyard' was just a view of the opposite wall across the tiny 'courtyard.' As we weren't spending much time in the room this wasn't a problem, but the advertised 'inner courtyard view' is a little misleading.

Decor excellent, beds we're large and comfortable, rooftop terrace and bar offered a breathtaking view. All service Personal we're Patient and very friendly.The Fitness amenities and spa were an added plus point. Central Location with well isolated windows. Extensive lounge areas with tasteful furnishings in colonial style with lots of leather, wood.and traditional ventilator tans.

The rooms water system had problems as the taps we're not inter destinguishable and the hot water took an eternity (4 min) but when one got used to it. The room lighting system was too high tech and we had expected a larger room for our money

Our room was clean and spacious, bed very comfortable. The breakfast selection was very good, and the staff very helpful. Plenty of seating in the bar area. Spa was small and the water was not very warm, so we didn't stay in there for any length of time.

I think for a hotel of this * rating the toiletries in the bathroom let it down. I really dislike these pump action containers on the bath/shower wall. I know they are more environmentally friendly than individual tubes of shampoo/shower gel, if you want to have a bath it is almost impossible to get into the bath, then reach up to the gels. If you are having a shower, it is a big step from the floor into the bath, and when the bath is wet it is slippy and could be dangerous.

The hotel was amazing, great location, fantastic facilities and brilliant staff. We were able to checkin to one of our rooms at 11am and stash all our bags before going out. The pool, spa and steam rooms were great with no extra charge to use the spa and steam rooms. The roof top bar and pool was amazing and the food was fantastic and good value for money. And we received a bottle of champagne and the kids a fruit basket as a welcome gift. We will definitely be going back to stay there.

Nothing it was amazing

The rooftop and the location and the stuffs were friendly. Very relaxing place especially the rooftop.

The gym too small and wasn’t complete, especially for me and my son who loves to do sport and heavy weights. The breakfast can do more better especially in cereal section. The bar in rooftop the cocktails Can be better. Overall, we love staying there especially the location-just right in the middle between up scale area and local area. We even found very nice sushi restaurant which very nice and very cheap and clean just behind the hotel. And the local market behind the hotel was epic. My son love it and me too.

We wanted to stay in the city center and had chosen "Hotel 1898" based on the reviews in booking.com and TripAdvisor. Please be aware that a city center is always full of life and therefore you must accept some noise if you leave the window open. For us, this hotel was great - we loved the kindness of the staff and also the possibility to have breakfast until 11:00 (you could stay even longer). Also the taxi’s just in front of the hotel are very helpful for all visits or travel to the airport. From our point nothing to improve only go on. The hotel for our next stay in Barcelona will be surely again Hotel 1898 :-)

The room, the facilities( gym and pool) , the breakfast . The staff was helpful and we even had an upgrade for our anniversary.

There should be better security at front entrance which is right off the Rambla, a very crowded and sometimes seedy neighborhood . We noticed that in the evening there is not always a guard watching the front entrance. Also there are people sometimes sleeping in the lobby; I assume they are waiting to occupy their room.

We were greeted with open arms and shown to our room promptly. The size of the room was great with a view over La Rambla. The hotel has a sense of calm about it which was amazing. We had issues with one of our key cards, resulting in us not being able to access the lift properly. We weren't too phased and walked the 1 flight of stairs to our level and proceeded to our room. Next minute, a bottle of bubbles turned up for the inconvenience. Going well above and beyond!

Although the view of La Rambla was nice, its a loud and busy street which slightly detracted from our experience (not that we were in our room that often anyway).
