The hotel is well placed in the centre on the main street & the staff were great but the hotel is a bit like your lovely old granny...comfy & creaky with a few cobwebs round the edges

The bedroom I had was a bit dull & the lighting not great. This wouldn't put me off staying there but I think the Elphinstone is due a revamp to get rid of the creaky floorboards & update the bedrooms in general. The bed was really soft so not comfortable for me & the beds were very small singles. I had to push the 2 together to stop me falling out 🤣

The manager went out of his way to help us. We arrived late and missed supper but were allowed to eat our sandwiches in the bar with a glass of wine. The next day we had to leave early for an appointment and were able to eat a quick early lunch. The hotel was a charming old building. The beds were comfortable, bathroom clean, towels provided. The town of Biggar is delightful with alleys running between the buildings up the hill. All staff very friendly and helpful and. We wish we had an excuse to come back.

Very friendly staff and very helpful. We were at a wedding a few miles down the road and couldn’t make check in on time. When I called to explain, the person on the other end of the phone was more than helpful and allowed us to turn up a bit later than what was supposed to be the time. The room we got was also very comfortable. It had one double bed and a set of bunk beds along with a very spacious bathroom. The full Scottish fry up was also a delight in the morning after a night at a wedding!

If I was to be pernickety and pick anything at all it would be that the rooms could be modernised but as I said, that’s really digging to find something negative.

I already knew where the hotel was located so this influenced my choice. I had only ever been in the bar on previous visits to the town of Biggar. I was very pleased with the quality of room for the price I paid, I also had a fantastic breakfast. I had a lovely evening meal in the dining room and enjoyed a few beers in the public bar. The best thing about the Hotel though was the polite and helpful staff, despite being very busy every staff member I spoke to was smiling and friendly.

I honestly cannot think of anything I didn't enjoy about my stay.

I had a brief but lovely stay. While the room was not large, it did everything I needed it to. The staff I spoke to were all charming. Dinner was terrific, as was breakfast, and the bar sold a nice pint of real ale. I needed to get to Glasgow on the following day: while Biggar itself is out in the countryside, reaching Glasgow was an easy journey, though admittedly, I am talking about a Sunday morning!

One or two places could perhaps have benefited from a lick of paint, but much was pleasantly atmospheric, and I wouldn't really want the proprietors to change anything. Oh, the bedroom walls were a little thin and I could hear some late-night revellers, but that can happen anywhere.

Stay here with several groups of families for a wedding at Cornhill Castle. The staff here were very accommodating , they went above and beyond for us all to ensure we had a great stay. Staff were very friendly and approachable. The food was so good! We ate on an evening as a large group and everyone’s food was exceptional and served all together. The breakfast were amazing, with a great choice. Thank you to your team for hosting us, we had a wonderful weekend.

The breakfast was excellent- plenty of choice, good portions and cooked well. The staff was excellent bringing out coffee and toast in good time. We liked the traditional, historical building and the friendly staff. The location was excellent just off the A74 and was a good stop off point between Essex and Oban.

Nothing in particular- a couple of areas of the hotel are looking a bit tired - the main carpet on the corridor from the stairs could be replaced for example.

Loved the hotel, the staff, the food, the town ... was a fantastic stay, the hotel room was clean, spacious and lovely and warm as it was cold outside. Also we had a fabulous dinner the night before and the breakfast was great too and my daughter worked on the next day in the restaurant as she had to "work from home" so the WiFi was great, staff were lovely and we had lunch and dinner there too and the food was brilliant. Also couldn't be more central in middle of main street Biggar. All in all we will definitely come back to this hotel and totally recommend to others.

Was not anything, just wished we had came the night before and made a full weekend of it.

Great Location, Large clean room, first full breakfast was delicious, staff very accommodating and friendly, very quiet room. Lots of storage in room; clean throughout; kids loved the fish tank.

Bed uncomfortable; second full breakfast was much smaller with items halved and not cooked very well; no fan available; limited free parking during the day; Windows not safe for young children; bath needed re-sealed and was moldy round the edge; weight of water while bathing our kids created bath to drop; water pressure not good from shower and when coming back after a certain time the front two doors are locked. There is no light to see lock on the second (internal) door. Only a slight inconvenience with a child in one arm, key in the other, and my phone in my bag.

Stayed here for a couple of nights with partner and daughter as we were attending a family wedding at a nearby venue. Had an excellent stay, staff very friendly and helpful. The meal we had was outstanding and great value, and the breakfast excellent. We stayed in the quadruple room which was spotless and a great size for us. Would highly recommend a stay here.We will definitely return.

Nothing to dislike.
