A very favourite hotel of my partner and I. We have stayed at the Hotel du Vin in Birmingham many times over the years. We especially like the location, yards from Birmingham Cathedral, and the heart of the best of central Birmingham, yet in a very quiet street. The hotel itself is a former Victorian eye hospital, which has retained much of its beautiful historic architecture, both internal and external. All members of staff offer a very high level of service - friendly, thoughtful and efficient. Special mention for a kind gentleman on reception, who helped carry our luggage to our room, and for an enthusiastic and kind and knowledgeable young gentleman who served our delicious meal in the hotel bistro when we were at that moment the only occupants of the dining room because of our early arrival. We also made regular use of the excellent Bubble Bar, the hotel’s attractive bar. The room was as always excellent - spacious, with an amazingly comfortable bed and excellent bathroom. Although we know the Hotel du Vin is a hotel chain (we recently stayed at the lovely Hotel du Vin, in Cambridge), we especially appreciate staying in the Birmingham branch, where a warm Welcome always seems to await us.

Nothing. Everything was as always excellent.

Have a lovely stay at the hotel for my daughters birthday in Birmingham. We had 2 x rooms. Checkin was easy and rooms were nice, needed a bit of TLC in both as looking a touch dated. But all in all ok. Breakfast was lovely food, didn’t like the fact you had to get your own tea / coffee. More to do with the long queues and how slow the machine was over the experience. Food was good though. Nice eggs Benedict & quality ingredients. Bar was good as well. Nice red wine and champagne. Unsure what the conservatory was closed as breakfast or drinks in here would of been lovely. All in all good stay.

Dated fixture and fittings in bathroom, suspect to heavy use and not much TLC.

The hotel is in a great location with parking near by and the city centre close too. Its quiet despite being this close to bars etc. The room was lovely and had all we needed, bed was lovely and comfortable. Staff were friendly and the hotel itself is beautiful especially the entrance and stair case.

The room was stuffy for my liking and we couldn't open the window or change the temperature. There was a mirror above the desk but it was too high to see into if you were sat so not sure of the purpose of it. Mini bar wasn't switched on and and couldn't see how to do so which was a shame as by the time you get back to your room the complimentary water left out is warm. We struggled to get cold water out of the sink tap as well without running it for ages

The room was lovely - very spacious and we received a free upgrade and free drink on arrival in the bar too. We weren't on a B&B rate so didn't experience the food but the bar service was excellent too.

I stayed one night en route to a work workshop/meeting in the city and initially had lunch in the restaurant which was very pleasant. My room was peaceful and comfortable and the check in/out a smooth process. The hotel is very conveniently located and has a calm atmosphere which I was after, following a full week and a work commitment with lots of people in the city.

I always prefer bathrooms on the same level as the bedroom rather than down a few steps, but otherwise the bathroom was spacious and well laid out.

Really central and perfect for the trip to the arena.

Nothing. It was lovely. Two small things. We went to the bar for a nightcap after the show. You're short staffed in there. The brilliant lady mixing the cocktails was run off her feet, she was doing her very best. But we had to wait a long time to get served. NOT HER FAULT! My partner and myself nearly abandoned it. But in the end she got to us and the cocktail was lovely. But you're short staffed in there. Also, the loo seat wouldn't stay up in our room. Had to use your knee to keep it up!

Other than getting a bit confused by the corridors, using names rather than numbers makes it hard to navigate your way back when sleepy, everything else was great. Beautiful room and public areas, staff were great and the breakfast was really excellent. Would definitely recommend opting for bed and breakfast and hope to return soon.

It's not a big thing but the large bedside lamps completely obscure the full length mirrors. Reflects the light beautifully but no use as mirrors. Really is a minor thing though.

The spacious deluxe room is definitely value for money.

Poor communication amongst hotel staff. We asked for a late checkout and were informed by the evening staff that it would cost an extra £10 per hour but to our surprise we received a call at 12 noon from reception telling us it would cost £20 an hour contrary to the information conveyed by the evening staff. The water coming out of the shower in our room was somewhat lukewarm with no option to increase the temperature however, that’s just a personal preference and not a deal breaker.

Beautiful hotel. Such a tasteful transformation from hospital to hotel. The rooms are really unusual with lots of character. Both dinner and breakfast at the hotel were fantastic, all the staff were friendly and helpful.

The one weakness was that the room overheated. Despite the aircon set to 16 C, the system couldn’t get it down to that. The room was to hot for sleeping. Apparently the inner windows should have opened, but wouldn’t seem to budge. Perhaps it was a one off, but definitely needs looking into.
