The Breakfast dining room was beautifully situated above Precinct Square so morning tea and breakfast were entertaining as we watched the city wake up.. Cathedral Gate Hotel is right by the Cathedral which I visited 4 times in one day. The beds are comfy and the tea things in the room include cream (something that is not found everywhere. Parking was a snap once you knew who to call (the desk). Welcoming staff told us about important events and sites nearby.

We had noise from the street which died out after 10 pm. Not the fault of staff or amenities, just a condition of stay.

Without a doubt, the best thing about this hotel is the location. You literally cannot get any better location-wise. The guest lounge, heated towel rail, nice shower and continental breakfast were, again, major plus points.

Unfortunately, the room was stifling with no ability to open a window so we had to sleep uncovered on top of the beds rather than get in bed. Staff did try their best by offering to loan us a fan but both fans available sounded like a low flying helicopter which we didn't feel was appropriate to use as it was inconsiderate to other guests on account of the noise level. However, the building is part of Canterbury Cathedral and, as such, I'm unsure if the owners would be allowed to install air conditioning etc. Also, the distinct lack of Internet access was a big issue for us. Seemingly, the law states that nothing is to be built of greater height than the Cathedral so it's hard for the City to install things like Internet masts etc.

Monica offered us a very warm welcome and guided us to our room. We loved the character filled rooms, the comfortable common areas, the included breakfast, and the amazing location. It was loud on the Saturday summer evening in a room facing the street, but we used the ear plugs provided and turned on the fan. A secondary set of translucent curtains would have been helpful as we were visible to people on the street unless we drew the blackout curtains.

The noise as described above was a little annoying. And if we had larger bags it would have been a struggle to navigate the stairs.

Location: Wonderful, easy to reach everywhere, just next to the Cathedral. Breakfast: Continental, good for us. Room: Spotless clean, we had everything we need Water machine near reception: Free spring and sparkle water anytime you can reach Rob,(I hope I can pronounce his name correctly) working at reception, he is friendly, lovely, kind and recommended lots of places to visit. They are giving a parking voucher you can use it for daily parking at the queiningate car park .

I know it's a double bed but it seems a bit small for us :)

Despite all three of us having mobility issues, we managed the stairs and corridors, thanks to the provision of well placed handrails and very accommodating, helpful staff. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and they managed to provide twin beds in one bedroom for the two sisters sharing. The continental breakfast though limited was fresh, tasty[especially the fruit salad] and perfectly sufficient for us. Friendly, excellent service in both the breakfast room and reception. Happy to book a taxi for us to a local theatre and we were delighted to have maps and guides ready to hand. The location is amazing, literally next door to the cathedral and with easy access to lots of restaurants/ pubs. We were glad of our rooms at the back on the Saturday night! The major other attractions are in easy walking distance even if you are not that mobile. Tip for disabled drivers - we parked at the Orange Street carpark - literally a 4 minute walk away with a walking frame - booking a parking place for two nights for £17 . Very handy!

A slightly wider range of choice on the continental breakfast menu e.g. some cold meats/ cheese or pain au chocolate would have been welcome additions.

The best croissant at breakfast, wow. Lovely delivery to room was appreciated. The water available for guests is excellent. Water is so important for me. 5 stars! The room had a lovely view of the market area. It is an old building with nice views front and back, and the location cannot be beat. The shower was very good. Had no issues sharing the bathroom down the hall; if you go for that option, don't let it deter you. There are multiple that are split up between certain rooms. I did stay just one night so that was not a big deal for me at all. The hosts are very polite. The room had good kettle and coffee/tea supplies.

This hotel is right in the middle of the pedestrianised area of the city. It's right beside the cathedral, and its entrance is on a beautiful square. So perfectly placed for a very historic stay. It was everything I had hoped from the description. Spotlessly clean and cosy room. The staff were so helpful. Especially Monica, who gave us loads of suggestions on things to do and places to go. Everyone was lovely. We had a tasty continental breakfast too by the window the next morning. The price was very reasonable for such a good location and being a Saturday night. The description does say with parking, but because of the location you park at a nearby public carpark. We parked at Queningate. Which is a very short walk away. The hotel then initiates a half-price discount on the parking cost. We stayed in a front bedroom. They are all named. You could hear some noise from the square, but it didn't disturb us at all. They even provide a water machine in the lobby so you can fill up a water bottle. I would definitely stay again.

Everything was perfect

Quirky, as you would expect for it's age and location. And location is, by far, it's biggest asset. The chap on reception when we arrived was exceptionally friendly and full of top tips of things to see and places to eat for our short stay. They all turned out to be top tips, so it saved on us taking pot luck and guessing. If you book expecting modern Hilton style rooms and facilities, you're going to be sorely disappointed. If you want a hotel room where you look out of your window at one of the worlds great cathedrals, literally metres away, this is the place.

A small fridge in the room would have been nice? Nothing else.

The staff were fantastic and so helpful. Rob greeted us at the desk and told us about the places to visit and restaurants in town with honest reviews. The night staff and the team serving breakfast couldn't do enough for us and so polite and attentive. The room was simple, plain and clean, no fussiness which is good! Bottled water was available for free and drink options in the room. Great location too!

The only thing that concerned me for a short time was some noise from the clubs/pubs nearby, I could hear the bass in my particular room, however it is a central location so not much they can do about it. HOWEVER all the noise stopped at 11/11:30 so no big deal in the end. In fact it was warm in my room so opened the window at about midnight, and it was very peaceful and quiet.

Amazing central location and awesome property right next to the cathedral. We arrived late evening and were greeted by Rob from reception who gave us a friendly and informative introduction to Canterbury and some great tips for our stay. Our room was lovely, beautifully decorated and with a view out onto one of the main cobbled streets with amazing old buildings, shops, restaurants and coffee shops. There was a lovely outside terrace area close to our room and you could see the cathedral top from there. Also there was a nice communal lounge area. We didn't visit the bar as our stay wasn't long enough but it was good to know there was one. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and served in a nice breakfast room. There was lots to see and do in the area. We had a great time and would love to go back!

We had difficulties finding the hotel by car. Mainly because there are bollards in Canterbury blocking off some roads - which was the case for the road to the hotel. Easy when you know how - stop next to the bollards, use the intercom system so they are lowered for you and wait for the green light to go.
