Hotel was central and staff polite and attentive without being overbearing. Parking on site was easy to access and no issues validating our vehicle. The building itself is an old building which is what was expected and certainly had some character. Rooms were spotlessly clean and had everything required despite being a little dated, but then we did not expect a modern hotel. Free wifi throughout the building. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and set us up for the day. Evening meal was also of an excellent standard and the range of dishes available would cater for everyone. The bar attached to the hotel was friendly, comfortable and very reasonably priced, what more do you need. We would certainly book again of we were staying in the area.

Nothing, if you book knowing the hotel is not a modern new build and accept this fact, there is nothing to dislike. If I was to be highly critical the TV in the room was situated in an odd position and rather small. But we didn't go to watch TV.

Breakfast was excellent. Beers in the bar were well kept. The locals were very friendly and the owner and staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The room was a little basic but spotlessly clean and there was more than enough coffee, tea etc provided. Also plenty of soaps and shampoos and nice soft towels. The shower worked well and there were no problems with the tv. A decent size car park and in the centre of the high street amenities,

The room was a bit spartan, A rug or two on the bare wood floor would not go amiss. There is no heater in the shower room/WC.

I just don't understand why when you stay two nights your room isn't given a freshen up? Covid was years ago its not nice coming back to unmade beds and dirty cups etc etc Maybe you have to ask but since Covid this has bugged the life out of me tbh

Location was excellent, staff amazing and the place had a nice homely feel with a lovely breakfast in with the fee which is rare these days. The bar was also homely and plenty of choice and we had the fillet steak which was amazing.

The room felt like we were staying in a cupboard because there was no window, no natural light. Bed was old and could use an update. And the TV was tiny and so far away and high that you couldn't really watch it.

The staff were great. Very welcoming and polite. The food was very very tasty and great value for money. It is located in an idea position to pass through or stay a couple.of nights. I will definitely use this place in the future.

The only slight downside is that the hotel is positioned next to a road where the sound of passing lorries made it a little hard to get to sleep at first. Nothing can be done about that though so not a complaint.

So let me start this review with the statement, this is an old, strongly built hotel, the walls are thick so having a router attached to the wall is possibly due to the fact that chasing the walls would be an amazing feat and expensive, also so what if the router is on the wall the benefit is you get free WiFi. If you look around this hotel you could very easily find decor faults, flimsy wardrobes and unplugged lamps but that is to miss what the the Newcastle Arms is about. My welcome was very friendly by both hosts, i was taken to a little room to check in and get the room key, this room also appeared to be a small wine store. We went to my room which was really great looking, metal double bed, tv, tea coffee making, ensuite, and very fluffy towels with shampoo etc accessories. The flooring was laminate but possibly on much older wooden flooring which made the floor bounce as you walked on it, the ensuite was adequate did its job but had one thing that made me smile, the air extractor, when it started up it was like a Cessna light aircraft warming up, once warmed it's perfect I went for a walk in Coldstream, beautiful little border town with history and on my return went to have a drink in the hotel bar with locals, my receptionist was also the bar keep and a great bar keep he was, he could speak on any subject to anyone making everyone feel at ease me included, the locals were friendly and i was included in their conversation, during the time Mrs Host came in with some great looking pub food classics, I wasn't hungrey at the time but i should have had something because the food looked amazing. I had a carling larger which i hadnt had for years with a Mac Callan 12 year old malt chaser. After 3 of those I was so happy. After dinner later in the Colstream Indian resturant i returned to go to bed. I sat watching the telly for a short time but decided to settle doen to sleep. Well here I must just say.....

Very good breakfast with everything you would expect. The staff were very kind, even supplying dinner upstairs as I had difficulty getting about due to a foot injury.

Nothing I can think of in terms of the accommodation or service provided. The bedroom was a bit steep to get up to, but that is in the nature of such an old building.

For the price, this was a very nice room - though with a family occupying all three beds it wouldn't feel quite as spacious as it did for me. The slight quirks in the decor, like two different curtain designs, make a refreshing change from identical-looking rooms. Good full breakfast included in the price.

The only slight problem was the shower - hot water alone was too hot, but add any cold at all and it goes cold. Coming from Tyneside, having Radio Newcastle in the background at breakfast made me feel more at home than I really wanted!

3 nights at the hotel,5till8th. June. Total value for money. The rooms are basic but very clean. Robin along with his wife and all the staff were great. The local punters were also very friendly, so all in all we had a great time.
