The location as it was close to Kendal and Windermere

We had an evening meal, mine was nice but my partner ordered Salmon at £25. However when it arrived she had the salmon and just a couple of pieces of asparagus. I would have thought a bowl of vegetables would have been required to justify the price. Her plate was so bear that i gave her my vegetables that were on my plate. Disappointed with what was provided and due to this experience we did not have breakfast there. They really need to look at the menu, not only to include the vegetables but to add a few more options as I felt it was limited choice.

Returning stay having loved last year's break, in spite of the poor weather last visit. This time the weather was great and showed the hotel at its best. Lovely surroundings, exceptionally friendly staff, fascinating characterful building with history and current charm, very clean, nice food, very cosy public areas, big room, accessible options, nice bathroom, plenty of towels and large free car park. Very handy for South and Western Lakes and a pleasant back route to Bowness.

Nothing to dislike. Shower knobs in our room a little stiff, but a minor issue.

Lovely friendly staff and attention to detail Felt very looked after and my dog was accommodated well too. Large room with lots of light and beautiful autumnal views. Relaxing short break.

Our room temperature was so hot and set at 30 degrees but not the staff's fault just had to turn the thermostat down. It was a humid night/day.

We like this type of hotel.

We had a good room at the front with a nice view. The facilities are becoming a little tired. There were sash windows & we couldn't find a way of keeping them open, other than jamming a book in the gap which is not ideal. Dinner service initially was far below the standard expected. The waitress appeared to be new, she didn't know what she was doing & didn't understand. Thankfully a lovely gentleman took over giving the standard we expected.

Stunning property with lovely lounge and dining areas. Great setting. Our room was great too (see constructive suggestions..) Dining service superb, professional and discreetly attentive. A truly beautiful establishment.

Mattress was hammock-like tired, and being restricted to being unable to open a window properly in our room was vexing (200mm does not constitute ingress of 'fresh air') especially coupled with the bed NOT having a top sheet and therefore requiring use of an over-warm duvet (a common malady in UK hotels!). Both these observations are easily resolved by attentive management, and overall should not detract from a super-pleasant establishment.

a nicely appointed 'grand house' at the end of a long driveway. This meant that the property was quiet and secure. On-site parking for the motorcycles was excellent, being next to the main entrance. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The rooms were of a good size, and well maintained. the food was pleasant and of good value.

the only negative comment is minor and common post Covid, areas of the hotel could benefit from a fresh coat of paint.

We stayed for one night DBB. The restaurant was good, the service exemplary, the food good and the wine excellent. A superb breakfast in the morning, again with excellent service. The room was luxurious with a large roll-top bath, and a shower in the ensuite. We could not fault any aspect of this delightful hotel.

It was too windy to explore the extensive grounds.

Lovely room. Superb bathroom - I love a bath as well as shower - this had both separately. Great space in my room and desk to work on. Quiet with options for bar/restaurant and room service. Breakfast was lovely - ordered from a menu and had cafetière coffee. Easy access to Kendal or tourist Lake District .

The room was mostly clean but the carpet had not been thoroughly vacuumed (evidence of some crumbs) and teapot had old teabag in it! However I did not complain because the rest was perfect! I think these things can happen at times when staff under pressure.

Breakfast was very good, great range of continental type foods, drinks and the full English, whilst not the biggest we’ve ever had but more than enough and very tasty. Evening meal of fish and chips was excellent. Staff very friendly and very helpful.

The drive was very potholey and the disabled parking was not clearly marked causing us to park in the main car park. The bed was very soft which didn’t help our backs. The room was spotless but the top of the headboard, the tops of the pictures were very dusty.

Helpful friendly staff. Beautiful location. Comfortable beds. Good kettle in the bedroom with lots of complementary drinks and biscuits. Very clean throughout and a lovely breakfast.

The bathroom fittings were a little disappointing. A great shower but one door was off its runners so did not work very well. Missing a handle on toilet pull chain. No spare bedding in the room. However this was my second visit and I'd definitely stay here again!
