First of all the location of St James Hotel is ideal for exploring Nottingham. The castle is almost bang opposite, and there are are pubs and restaurants right on the door step. The city centre is only a very short walk away too. Secondly the decor is very stylish. Both the rooms and the public areas stand out from other hotels as they are tastefully decorated and are a little different to most other hotels. The bar is a lovely place to spend time and the barmaid was excellent company whilst I was there.

Parking is a short walk away which isn't ideal if it's raining.

I loved that all the staff were polite, helpful and kind. My initial room had a view of the car park. Which was very close. I mentioned it to reception and they moved me to another room straightaway. As I had slept most of the day, I woke up hungry at 10 o’clock. I went down to get a few drinks to take back to my room. And the staff made me cheese/pickle sandwiches. Nothing was too much trouble. I have a few unseen disabilities and a chronic illness. Their kindness helped me to enjoy my stay and rest. Breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice and quality food. They had delicious sliced beef as a cold cut choice! I will be definitely be going again for my next recharge/wellbeing.

They need to update the website to show they no longer offer Spa facilities. This needs to be updated on Booking.com too.

The hotel was in a great location in the city but away from the centre so a little quieter. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was described as a “crash pad” and it was, but with all you needed with a fabulous comfy bed, tv and en-suite bathroom. The breakfast was lovely with lots of choice and nice and hot!

The car park was a bit tight space wise and a little walk away from the hotel, but the price ok. I used the stairs in the hotel rather than the lift and the ground floor of the stair passage was a little bit grim compared to the rest of the hotel. Only very small details and certainly didn’t detract from my stay.

Very nicely appointed hotel hidden just out of the way of the main drags but close enough to walk to them easily. Staff were incredibly helpful and went out of their way to help me with parking issues due to the NCP app not being up do date with the latest version of Andriod when I visited. Were able to help locate alternative parking for me and gave excellent directions. Cleaning staff were also very friendly and proactive when it came to sorting issues. Really good show all round.

I have no negative criticism it's an excellent little hotel with equally excellent staff. Will be staying here agin next time i'm in the area.

I was offered a last minute room upgrade which I paid for and it really was a nice room with plenty of space and some nice touches like free bottles of water and well stocked tea/coffee/biscuits. The main feature of the hotel for me was the location, right next to the castle and very easy walk to centre of the city. They wouldn't let me check in early but happy to put luggage in storage - all in all service was very good. I didn't need to park but those that did seemed to have no problem with paid parking right next door.

The view from the room wasn't great but normal for a city centre hotel.

Very friendly & helpful staff. Excellent bar at reasonable prices and a lovely breakfast in the morning. Very comfortable & relaxing and only a short walk to the city centre, railway station and the Arena. The room itself had a super king bed and had plenty of electrical plugs for phones etc. Biscuits, coffee and tea were complimentary in the room. The room was good got one night although to be fair, I’d class it as being a bit tired and in need of refreshing.

Room was too warm as is the case with hotels nowadays and we couldn’t lower the air conditioning as it was preset. The windows only opened slightly due to health & safety so it took ages to reduce the temperature to an acceptable level. No matter how we tried we couldn’t get the shower yo work so had to opt for a bath instead.

the location was amazing, right next to the castle. the reception and bar area were really impressive and modern

The room was clean and comfortable. I had paid extra for a suite with a seating area but to be honest I’d paid for a pull out bed in a corner that was dirty and not something I’d have been willing to sit on. our view was over the NCP which wasn’t ideal but we just pulled the curtains. I wasn’t overly impressed to be woken early (8am) by housekeeping banging around outside our room. I fed this back to the hotel reception

Great location tucked away but with easy access to the city Centre, very close to the castle. All staff were lovely. Breakfast was top notch.

Room was a little small, we had twin beds & mine was very close to the door. Overlooked the NCP car park. Heating (air blower in main room) wasn’t great as it only came on when the key card was in, therefore room was cold when we arrived and again when we got back from our night out at the theatre. Bathroom was also pretty cold and needed updating. Better soundproofing would be a huge advantage. Our neighbours complained of noise disturbance in the early hours of the morning and we were woken from deep sleep by a member of staff knocking & coming to check. Very loud outside our door!

We had booked 3 rooms and requested that they were close together - they were able to do that which was great. Hotel location is excellent, literally at the entry/exit of the NCP St James Street, and within walking distance of the bars etc. Rooms were lovely. We booked Exec Doubles, 3 people per room, the rooms have a very large double bed and a sofa bed, Kettle, coffee capsule machine, lots of tea/coffee/hot chocolate and some biscuits all in the room. Ken behind the bar makes a mean cocktail!

The views from the rooms are much better on one side of the hotel than the other!! One side has a fab view of the NCP car park.....

Fantastic location in the very centre of Nottingham - just a few minutes walk from 'Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem' pub which is never a bad thing! Room was extremely comfortable and breakfast in the morning was great!

The entrance / exit for the underground car park in which the hotel has a few spaces is very tight - great care required if you have a larger car. We have a Qashqai which was ok but even with that you have to be careful with your angles!
