Very handy location when exploring Cornwall. The building is beautiful as were the staff. Our room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the shower fantastic. And all for a very sensible price. Also I highly appreciate the 11am departure time. Far too many places are getting earlier and earlier. Theirs nothing better than leaving your stay in a leisurely manner, makes you feel welcomed for your custom instead of being kicked out abruptly like your in a conveyor belt.
I think if you spent a little money on some decent carpet throughout it would transform the property. Also the breakfast was far too small. However these are only constructive criticisms and didn't deflect from the lovely time we had here.

As soon as I began to drive up the winding drive, I knew I was in for a treat. Easy to park, and a short cut path to reception. Very helpful and friendly receptionist, and a kind young man to show me to my room - and carry my bag. Fabulous room with double bed and ensuite bathroom. Gorgeous views from mullioned window. Nice temperature. Easy to get a sandwich. Inclusive breakfast delicious. But for me, this is the amazing bit: I have fibromyalgia and crave a decent night's sleep, but at the Alverton I slept like a log for 8.5 hours!! I woke up really refreshed! Everyone was so lovely and spoke to me as if I was the only person in the hotel. I didn't want to leave, and I definitely want to go back again!
Well, it has to be the stairs. A bit steep. But authentic in the lovely old building. And a good way to walk off the lovely food!

Beautiful building & great location for visiting Truro. We had a warm welcome from the friendly young lady on reception. Quirky building with tiny lift & lots of small stairways to find our room, as we went the wrong way, but it made us laugh. Perhaps we should have taken them up on the offer of a porter, lol! Our very nice bedroom was much larger than expected & a big en-suite with a large walk-in powerful shower & lovely big white soft fluffy towels were so nice. The locally sourced Bloom hand & body wash & lotion plus Cornish tea were a nice touch, although I do prefer individually wrapped biscuits rather than four small shortbread biscuits in a jar. It was generally a very nice stay, just a shame it was only for one night. We would recommend it.
We overlooked a small quiet wooded part of the garden, plus a courtyard below, which was used by the staff. This was mainly chippings, which was noisy when walked on & sound carried when staff were talking out in the courtyard. It is a listed building, hence no double glazing, so we were worried about the noise at night & early morning, but thankfully it was nice & quiet most of the time. The skirtingboards & wooden window frames could do with some attention, but this did not spoil our stay. The choice & size of breakfast was not huge but was fresh & adequate.

Stunning building which has been tastefully renovated. Comfortable and spacious communal areas, well appointed bedrooms, friendly and attentive staff. We were really blown away by how special we were made to feel once the staff found out we were celebrating our engagement, they went over and above to make our time there fantastic. Big shout out to bar manager Simon, who not only made our afternoon a very entertaining and enjoyable one… but went the extra mile to make sure our stay was the best it possibly could be.
Due to age of building, noise from other guests did impact us a little as they were passing our room.

The room overlooking the lovely gardens was quiet and comfortable. The breakfast selection was good. The evening dinners in the restaurant were all very good.
A few quibbles about the breakfast. Toast should be crisp. It wasn't, and indeed seemed only to have been toasted on one side. 'Disappointingly soggy' would be the best description. The grill was a little mean. We had just stayed at a favourite restaurant of ours in Gloucestershire, where two eggs, two rashers of bacon, a much larger hash brown, and fried bread are provided. The one rasher of bacon was rubbery every morning, and the one poached egg was overdone (i.e. not runny) on most occasions. In the bar, amaretto has no place in a whisky sour. I would recommend you replace it with more bourbon.

My second visit to this venue and I received an upgrade to a garden room. In future I will pay the little bit extra to always have this amount of space. Curtains blacked out all light, artificial and natural, very pleasant temperature in the room itself and a comfortable chair in which to work at the desk. Very good coffee provided for the cafetiere in the room. Low level walk-in shower which was spacious and high enough for a larger than average man.
A very, very minor point but placing the information book in a more prominent point would have made it easier to locate.

An extraordinary, huge building with beautiful grounds. We had had no idea what it would look like - it started out as a manor-house in the early 1830s, then became a convent and was turned into an hotel in the early 1980s, all of which we found fascinating. Our bedroom was lovely, with a high ceiling and a huge, comfortable bed. Staff were helpful and food was good, especially at breakfast time, because the order for freshly cooked food was taken while we sat at the table, instead of our having to help ourselves to what had been hanging about for ages. (Most modern hotels we stay at these days do expect you to help yourselves).
Nothing!

Excellent friendly helpful staff, wonderful old building and grounds. Very convenient for exploring Truro and surrounding area. Easy safe free parking, however EV charging is expensive.
The restaurant was poor considering the high prices charged. We ate there one night then decided to try restaurants in Truro which were much better and cheaper. The staff in the restaurant were great, just food, was not great, especially when you order a main for £30+ and then have to pay extra for vegetables as it comes without any ??????

The dinner and the breakfast were delicious. Our room was very spacious and the bed was so comfortable. The shower in our en suite was absolutely heavenly! The towels and toiletries were very good quality.
There was a very long delay in receiving our breakfast on the second morning, which was rather disappointing. However, to be scrupulously fair to the staff, there was a large private party staying in the hotel, with everyone appearing for their breakfast more or less at the same time, which I have no doubt contributed to the delay.

The location was perfect for an overnight stay as we were visiting the Hall for Cornwall. A short walk into town. Plenty of places to eat nearby. The staff at the hotel were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was perfect. I am coeliac and the hotel were very accommodating and conscientious catering for me. such a relief as unfortunately so many hotels and restaurants have no awareness. So thank you! The bed was extremely comfortable too.
The hotel is a beautiful building, it could do a little updating in the bedrooms though. Our bathroom had some mould around the window. I know this is part and parcel of an old building, especially in Cornwall but it could be wiped off regularly to keep on top of it. This is only minor though and would not put me off staying here again by any means.
