Great staff, great hotel, great location for us. Having said that, the card readers at check-in are absolute trash. Stayed here in late February. Tried 2 different readers several times on two different cards before approval. Same thing again end of March. 5 denials on 2 cards on both readers before approval. After check-in, went to their bottle shop next door and the shops card reader worked fine. Also, no tap available on hotel readers. Met a couple in the elevator who experienced the same situation. They were very upset. Felt it to be very demeaning. I know my cards are valid. Nonetheless, it is embarrassing, knowing your cards are good, to have your cards rejected especially while others are waiting to check-in behind you. Replace those readers. They're not that expensive! As an aside: provide traditional coffee makers. Keurig is a poor second.

This hotel is centrally located in the heart of Victoria and we were able to walk the entire downtown area. There are many restaurants within walking distance too. We had lunch at the Sticky Wicket, which is immediately beside the hotel, and the food was very good. We had a king room with a fridge and microwave. The hotel has been nicely renovated, and the room was spacious for two people and nicely decorated. Bathroom was modern with a large shower, and the bed was comfortable. The room seemed quite soundproof, as we were never disturbed by outside noise. Twice I called housekeeping for extra supplies and they were at my door in under five minutes. All the staff we interacted with were exceedingly pleasant and helpful! We used the car park, which was right around the corner from the hotel and easy to access. As noted when we booked, there is an additional charge to park.
Honestly, everything worked really well for us.

Really liked the adjacent Big Bad John's, Sticky Wicket and Games Room facilities. Also was impressed with Concert Venue downstairs. Great location in Central Victoria. Close to everything! Liked the motion activated light under the bathroom cabinet. Really nice touch when needing to get up in the night to use the facilities.
Room was a bit small but clean and comfortable. Only one elevator. No Direct access from hotel lobby to restaurants. Had to cut through Big Bad John"s next door, which seemed kind of silly?

The room was fantastic, everything I had hoped for. Street view was excellent and bedroom was quiet and dark. Well laid out room. The location is excellent with parking right around the corner. Fridge, coffee maker, ironing board, iron, microwave, all the things anyone might need. Wonderful shower and very clean washroom. My 84 year old mother and my younger sister and I all wanted to stay longer than one night! My sister and mother slept in the king size bed, and I slept on the pull-out couch. It was the most comfortable hide-a-bed I've ever slept on, and the pillows are amazing! We enjoyed going to the pub Big Bad Johns and the night club Sticky Wicket. Most important to me was that no vacuums started up before check out time! I have stayed in several rooms at the Strathcona when I visit from out of town and highly recommend it.
I was a bit offended by the front desk person when I checked in. She spoke so fast and with an accent that I didn't understand, and I had to repeatedly say "pardon me?" because I didn't understand her. Perhaps if she had talked slower that might have helped. It was especially difficult to understand her when I was signing the paper work. Overall I would rate the reception service as poor. It could definitely be improved. Also, my mother and sister informed me the next morning that the king size bed in the bedroom had no blanket or duvet on it, and they were cold. I'm guessing maybe the housekeeper might have forgot to put the duvet on? But the heating controls work just fine so we turned it up.

What a wonderful location and the interior, the outlook, the sticky wicket.....everything screams the true essence of Victoria. You can literally walk all around and take a bus to anywhere around Victoria in just 1-2 min walk. The staff helped me with checking in early in minutes and also easing out my worries of checking in with a debit card. I will forever cherish this stay and recommend HIGHLY to book this place for its most epic location, price and everything else.
The morning front desk lady. She just wanted me to throw the key in the bin and leave. She said she will not give me any receipt and in the evening I had to call the hotel again to get a receipt which I got within five minutes.

The location is excellent. We didn’t have a car, and the bus line to the ferry stops very close to the hotel. We stayed for three nights in room 401, which has a view of the city. Since we wake up early, we loved watching the city come alive in the morning. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the heating system was easy to use, the staff was friendly, and the hotel was quiet. The magnifying mirror was excellent for applying makeup, the coffee machine was very good, and the coffee was hot and delicious. I took a photo of the blinds system, which I found excellent. On the last day, we left before 11 a.m., but we left our luggage at the reception with Elvie to enjoy a bit more of the day. The trip was wonderful and romantic. Thank you!

The hotel was comfortable, and located very close to the seaplane dock, inner harbor area and two streets over from Government St which means it was easy to go shopping and grab a bite to eat.
The area was very quiet at night ( after 7 pm in the winter ) so it felt a little dodgy at night and in the early morning ( McDonald's run ), there were many homeless people about but this is not the fault of the hotel and one could argue that it's not the fault of the homeless either. For the most part the homeless didn't bother people, of course there were requests for money but they were not aggressive about it.

The hotel is walking distance to basically anything you could need! They gave us a coupon for a meal at the Sticky Wicket pub nextdoor and to their liquor shop where I was able to purchase a gift for a family member. The staff was very kind, helpful and welcoming. The parking is off site but only about half a block away so it wasn’t too bad. All in all, this was our first visit and we will likely be back!
The front-facing rooms definitely catch more street noise than we expected. We are heavy sleepers so it didn’t bother us much, but people and cars made a bit of noise well into the night. Just something to consider if you’re a light sleeper! I also had one experience with the shower and didn’t have hot water. I assumed it was just a busy time for showering so I waited about 10 minutes and it was back.

Located in downtown and most places are within 10-15 minutes of walking distance. Parking was $15/day around the corner which is reasonable from the hotel. Staff were super nice (Elvie) and room was good size with recently renovated vibe to it. Lots of places to eat, see, and do, close to the hotel. Room had strong water pressure for the shower, two TV's (King suite room), clean, and wifi was fast enough for our needs.
Street noise since the hotel is located by the main road. Many homeless people in the area, but they are not aggressive. One elevator serving the hotel was a bit slow at times. People coming out from the bar/blues venue can be loud around 9-11PM for smoke, etc.

I've stayed at 6 or 7 hotels plus a few STR's in the last year in Victoria. This one I would say is the best overall so far. The rooms are brand new renovated. Really nice clean finishes, large stand up shower, no tub, easy in and out. Dimmers on bedroom lights, nice vibe, look forward to coming back with my wife. Had a desk for work, lots of plugs for devices. Great location downtown. Big bright windows with blackout curtains.
Parking around the corner and across the street, open lot. Not the worst in the world, you do get easy access downtown parking, although for an added cost. The cost is reasonable compared to some others. It is nice to take the elevator direct to your car which is not available here. It is not a secured lot, although I did notice lots of security around the area, plus the National Rental lot is right next door. Not a big negative overall, but if I had to name one, I guess this is it.
