Cosy, traditional inn in the centre of Hawkshead. Good breakfast with a choice of cooked options and also cereals and croissants. Friendly and helpful staff. Good supply of tea, coffee and biscuits in the bedroom. Comfortable bed and great blackout curtains.
Although comfortable, the bedroom we stayed in (room 5) was extremely small and much smaller than other rooms on the same floor. It was adequate for two nights but we wouldn’t want to stay in it for longer. The bathroom was too small for a hand basin which was placed in a corner of the bedroom (making bedroom space even smaller). Nowhere to hang or store clothes and we had to move bags around when going in and out of the bathroom because of limited space. Check the size of the room before booking as our friends, who paid the same, were allocated a much bigger room!

The food was excellent and expectations of dining here wasn't' just pub food I have had 4 Star food and it wasn't half as nice as here the waitress were so attentive to your dining experience that we couldn't of had a better stay. Thank you for making our stay wonderful. All the local people were so nice 🙂 thank you we will be back very soon.
The bathrooms weren't finished off but everything else made up for our wonderful stay xxx

It’s a traditional old pub in middle of Hawkshead which we love. The business in process of handover to new owner but Steve - temp manager - was amazing. There were no pun measly unfortunately but the breakfasts were excellent and Steve was Chef/waiter/bar staff/room service etc - all of which he carried out with aplomb
It was unfortunate there were no evening/pub meals but this is a temporary situation I believe. It could do with a bit of facelift inside but again that will probably change with new owner.

The pub and hotel were very nice, perfectly acceptable, as were the staff. Room 3 (at the back) was great and had everything you needed with a few extra touches. You could hear the kitchen extractor when the kitchen was open, but you are there to enjoy the area and pubs etc...not sit in your room. So it didn't matter as it wasn't on when you were asleep. Room 5 (on the front) was smaller and without a hanging rack (like Room 3), but when you book, it clearly says small double. A minor thing the bathroom fan could do with some maintenance, it was pretty noisy and stays on for a while , can be a bit disturbing if you use the loo during the night. But both rooms were lovely and very clean. The food was great and all the staff were super too. Thank you for a lovey stay!
I felt sorry for the staff and owners. They were all working very hard.. but there just wasn't enough of them to go around. There is a massive lack of hospitality staff in the Lakes..well everywhere tbh, so the staff in situ had to make up for this. And they did their absolute best.

It was fantastic to see new tenants in the Red Lion. The rooms have been painted/decorated, which made a huge difference from our last visit. I believe the new carpets are being laid this week, which again, will make such a difference! The staff were friendly, and allowed us to change our time for breakfast in the morning. The breakfast was very tasty (plenty on the plate) and plenty of tea/coffee/juice etc. to follow. We wish the new tenants the "best of luck", and hope they settle in well at Hawkshead! We will certainly recommend the Red Lion to family and friends.

Great location. Comfortable rooms. Lots of character. Good beer. Nice breakfast.
Dinner was just about OK. Limited selection of meat options - mainly burgers & steaks. But the dishes looked good. Poor vegetarian choice & not the same care given as with the meat dishes. As a vegetarian who is gluten intolerant it was even more limited! A few simple additions at breakfast would have improved an already decent meal: Glasses rather than plastic cups (it’s a pub after all); proper porridge rather than Oat So Simple & a flask of hot water.

Having read previous reviews I was really worried about our stay, I had my 90year old mam with me. I was met at the door by the landlords and they both helped mam in and me with the luggage. After seeing mam not walking well they gave her a different bedroom on the first floor . Nothing at all was too much trouble. They only took the Inn over on Monday 14th November and had the decorators in, but through all their mayhem they were some of the best hosts I've met and their young son follows in their foot steps. I wish them the best of luck in their new adventure and hope to see them again soon. .
Nothing really just will be better when the kitchen is up and fully running.

It was central for all the attractions we wanted to visit Food and service was amazing, beds were lovely and comfy The staff were very accommodating for a busy Easter weekend they always made sure we had a table if we wanted one
Does get a little loud in the evenings in your room but there is a warning in the room details

Under new management but very friendly couple (Craig and Sarah) running the place along with very helpful staff. The food and drink was very nice and good value for money. Location is ideal for the fantastic views and local walks. Also, dog friendly.
Nothing, Everything was much better than we expected after reading recent reviews made before the new owners took over.

Cozy, charming inn with friendly staff and a great pub for dinner. They make sure to reserve a table for guests as the restaurant can fill up quickly. Very grateful that they have parking right outside as there is little to no street parking in Hawkshead. A wonderful Peter Rabbit gift shop full of all things Beatrix Potter is right around the corner, as is a lovely shop and cafe called HoneyPot. We all enjoyed exploring the town very much.
During such a heatwave in the UK, since the inn has no air conditioning, they really ought to supply a fan for each room. It can be very difficult to sleep otherwise and the windows don't open far enough to provide adequate ventilation.
