Very spacious buildings, with very friendly staff. I loved that they showed Rugby games in one of the common rooms. The kitchen was very big, with a lot of storage space & tables to eat at. The bathrooms were very clean cosindering how many people use them. I appreciated that my room had its own sink in it and that not only bedrooms, but also bathrooms were separate for males & females. This hostel confirmed my feeling that you can never go wrong with a Hostelling International youth hostel, they are always a great choice.
There were too few power sockets per room, it would have been especially nice to have them by/near the bed.

I only stayed one night for my return to the airport but I wish I stayed longer! I had a single private room. It was warm, roomy and comfortable. I slept so well and the hot shower was appreciated. The huge communal kitchen had everything you needed. The reception space looked like a very upmarket hotel, you couldn't believe it was a hostel! Parking is free and it is a short walk into town to experience all Inverness has to offer.. I will be back!
The only complaint was the lack of spoons for my soup. Plenty of crockery and cutlery apart from the spoons! Otherwise, everything was perfect

The hostel is big and comfy, there are many communal areas where you can sit and chill out or work on your laptop. It's possible to book breakfast, but I didn't do this, so I cannot say how good it is. Free coffee and tea is available any time. The room was clean and comfy. The area is nice and quiet, only a short walk (maybe 10 minutes) from the city centre.
The only thing I didn't like was the construction of the bunk bed. The gap where you enter and exit the top bed was really narrow and as I'm not a sporty person who is scared of heights (every top bunk bed is almost like Mount Everest when you get out), I actually struggled for a few minutes to get out. Once you found the right angle, it's easy though. Another thing - and it's nothing the hostel could do about - if you ask Google maps for directions, it sends you up quite a steep set of stairs. If you don't fancy climbing stairs, just cross the street at the little square and walk through the "tunnel" by the traffic lights.

After camping for a week in the Highlands it was great to spend my last night in a real bed and enjoying my own space. The atmosphere in YH is always great with lots of other solo travellers in the communal areas, many of whom are happy to talk and share our stories, but also being respectful of quiet spaces and space for reflection. Inverness YH is of course a city location but so close to so much nature! A good spot to stock up before or after a trip to the wilder parts of the Highlands.
everything was great, nothing that I didn't like

It was fine overall. Quiet location. Showers were good, with hot water. You need a card to enter the area with the rooms and the kitchen, so it’s secure. Staff was welcoming and helpful. There’s a special room for luggage storage.
It’s a 15-20 mins walk from the train station, partly uphill, which wasn’t great with the luggage. Only 2 sockets in a 6-bed female dorm. Wifi didn’t work well, it kept asking for sign in each time I opened my device. The drying room has racks for drying, but it’s not warm there, my socks did not dry overnight. The kitchen gets a bit busy in the morning/evening. There was little space available in the fridges and one of the guests had his entire food bag taken (stolen?).

Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff were amazing and friendly, making checking in and out and asking any questions a great experience. The location was great and the hostel was a great reminder that there are good clean comfortable hostels around.
We booked a family room and ended up in the male dorm, in a large room. The room was great but as it was two women and a young man sharing a room we think we got lost in the system. We were unable to use bathroom facilities as we were two women in a men's dorm. An inconvenience for an otherwise great stay.

I like that hikers and bikers were there as well a travellers like me. I like the quiet location and interesting history of the building. I liked the large kitchen set-up and dining room, though a cosy ‘common room’ would be really nice too.
I wished it had provided very clear directions and information about what to see in Inverness and surrounds, not just pamphlets. As in all hostels nowadays (I’ve been hosteling since the 1970’s) it is hard to break through our devotion to our phones and get into a conversation with fellow travellers. Evening presentations on different subjects (history of Inverness/Culloden for example) or games nights might help with this.

The hostel is lovely - bright and very clean and great value
The check in was terrible. I’d emailed four times to say that we were going to be very late and how would we get in. Was told the night porter is usually there (??) there would be a bell to press etc. in the event there was nothing or no-one. Door locked, no bell. Banged hard on door and was about to climb in through an open window on the ground floor when someone arrived. This was 2 in the morning and we were exhausted. Quite sure this was the mistake of central hosteling Scotland and not the staff at the Inverness Hostel who were delightful. Such a shame as the hostel is fantastic and a great place to stay. It is very close to the city center - 15mins walk to the train station. Staff was very helpful! Sleeping quality was great - mattress was good and room was warm enough. Reading lights were provided for each bed. Big dining room and fully equipped kitchen. A cat who welcomed me in the lobby :)
It would be great if they have hairdryer. The hostel was rather full with families with small children during my stay (close to new year). So it was quite noisy at times - but it was quiet at night.

the rooms were very clean, big and nice. also the people working there were really nice, helpful and just lovely. the whole house was nice and clean. especially the bathrooms and showerrooms (which we had to share)
the hostel was a bit away from inverness (about 10min to the city centre by foot), but that was perfectly fine while we were there there wasnt really a room to play board games in the evening. theres a big kitchen and a dining room, but people were usually eating and we didnt really want to disturb them
