Room, facilities, view. Friendly staff, but not enough for busy times.

We booked a room with a full kitchen so we could take and cook our own food. The shop on the island is barely stocked.. As expected. We did expect the resort to supply salt, pepper and a small supply of oil for cooking...but no. Had to beg it from restaurant. The dishwasher was broken, which they knew but didn't tell us. It took us a day to get a plug for the sink. A dish draining rack would have been good in lieu of dishwasher. Resort built back in days before soundproofing was considered. Guests in room directly above ours sounded like a herd of pacing elephants - take ear plugs.

The restaurant food was lovely but the service wasn’t great, drinks were forgotten and I had to ask for a steak knife for my steak which took a while to get the servers attention. Rooms were not ready when we arrived- we were asked what time we would also I felt they should have been ready. Also 3 pm is a very late time for check- in ! Especially when at 4pm the room still wasn’t ready!! There needs to be an after hrs vending machine for chips, water or soft drinks. Also in the bathrooms female hygiene products vending machine is quite needed!

Being able to snorkel right off the beach. Arriving directly at the resort.

Room was a little tired. Some walkways needed to be repaired. Checkout didn’t pick up all charges suggesting various business units aren’t linked in real time. Went to Turtle rehab centre only to find it was closed. Signs at the resort giving live updates would be beneficial.

Location is stunning, most staff very friendly and more than willing to help. The reef, well, that’s what makes the whole experience go from meh to excellent. So many corals, fish, turtles. The layout of the resort is great and the food we ate at the bars and restaurants was very good. Coffee, snacks etc all reasonably priced considering there’s no other option on the island; coffee for example cost the same as on the mainland. If you needed anything for your room, such as clean towels or washing up liquid, this was dealt with efficiently. Full kitchen is indeed a full kitchen and allowed us to store and cook a week’s worth of meals cooked from scratch. All public areas such as bars, seating areas and along the beach are very clean and well maintained. Very relaxing atmosphere; thank you to all the hard working staff who made our break the best one in over 5 years.

Cleaning - the basics are good upon arrival but room then not serviced for 5 days. If attention to detail is your thing, don’t look behind or under things or expect anything to be dusted. Stains on carpets and curtains and furniture showing signs of a lot of wear. Dishwasher was not working upon arrival and not dealt with the entire time we were there. Cockroaches and drain flies - but I imagine this is pretty typical for tropical Queensland. Would have loved some basics to be made available such as salt and pepper and cooking oil, but asking for some sachets from the bar was not a problem.

Excellent rooms but no view towards beach area. Seats at the tortise conservation area - there was under cover area at entry but for those waiting for opening on a hot day a few chairs or even a bench seat would be most helpful. I was slightly disabled so it was hard to stand to wait for entry.

The spa in the pool area was almost inaccessible (due to unusual design). Did not see anyone use whilst I was there. Unable to visit Nudy Beach due to the high rocks on the track with no form of handrails, ropes or any support. I felt this was dangerous and a visit to the beach would be a highlight for visitors.

Most of the staff were amazing. A special shout out to Hannah the Marine Biologist who went above and beyond to help us with an activity for the kids.

The staff at the general store (blonde ozzy girl) were particularly uninterested in being there. The coffee staff at Foxy's (ozzy girl) were quite bad at making coffee in a busy period.

This is Fitzroy Island, a genuine island off the coast, 45 minutes or so from Cairns. So if you struggle with the island concept then this will not help you. Fitzroy Island is both historically significant as well as highly picturesque. The island has many vistas to capture and all are walks. The island itself is not very big, a few square kilometres but quite elevated in places. The resort, the only accommodation on the island offers a range of accommodation. The hotel style accommodation was very good and can be suitable for self catering depending on the room type. You might consider this if staying for an extended period. There are a couple of options for dining. There is an island style pub with the usual basic meals and generally these are fine. There is also an excellent restaurant with an interesting menu and well worth a visit. Overall the staff are friendly and helpful. Of course this is a fairly large resort and the staff can vary with service delivery. However, by and large they were good. There are a range of activities around the island. Of course many of these are water based. So give Fitzroy a try and I think it is well priced and a very reasonably priced.

Check in was a bit of a mess and the room was not ready until well after the due time all rooms should have been available. The overall area of the resort was undergoing maintenance and upgrades. There is never a good time to do this but the resort did its best to still offer a good service.

Loved the Island, room and pools

Needs more warning on lack of options for eating and education on the fact there are kitchens in the room (i.e. warn people to bring food to cook). General store doesn't have many options

The location! This was a paradise island. The reef was only a few meters from the shore and was teeming with life. The pool was great and necessary given the stinger risk. All accommodation shortcomings are forgiven in light of the fantastic location. But next time I’d book a balcony room.

Our room was at the back of the hotel and was dark and a bit tired. It had large windows but overlooked the metal board walks that provide access to all the rooms on all floors.

spectacular scenery, walks, snorkeling and island vibe. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere a lot. The view from our window was amazing, luckily one of the only ones without palms in front.

I was disappointed at the day tourists were walking on the reef. There seemed to be no one making sure the tourists knew how to enter and exit the reef safely without standing on the coral. The only thing in our room that was a disappointment was that the dishwasher wasn't working and there were no tea towels to dry up. They gave us bath towels which didn't do the job. Also, the carpet in the hallways really needs replacing... it was gross.
