Great staff very friendly, after discovering of staying there it's the second most haunted place in uk, music played there are amazing, bar looks lovely, only thing is in room 125 WiFi isn't that great keep losing it, room service there was great also food smell lush. Would stay again. It's pricey something like £200 i would recommend they should do an inclusive offer to help the value to stay, free WiFi isn't much perhaps discount on food and drink would be ideal. But overall it's a lovely place to stay also slept well there.

bathroom was so noisy could hear the traffic as like the bathroom didn't have any walls lmao even though there was some.

Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful

1. There was no gluten free bread for breakfast - an omission for a hotel which is not cheap (we did ask, all that could be offered was porridge) 2. There was no fresh fruit at breakfast, despite there being a picture on your banner advertising breakfast. It was all from frozen or canned, not nearly as nice. 3. When we arrived we were told that check-in was from 3pm, and would cost £20 extra as it was only 2pm. However, once we pointed out that our email from you said 2pm all was fine - but you might like to check this inconsistency.

Historic and picturesque hotel. It is from some centuries ago, still with charm and elegance. We loved it. I hope they didn't remove this charm with any modern refurbishment Very comfortable bed, bedroom with a romantic space for a tea time Lovely breakfast with fruits, many hot drinks, hot foods, specialy arranged. Amazing staff, the barman, the receptionist and Joan, in the breakfast area.

As we arrived from a side that it was not possible to see the parking entrance, we needed to pass the hotel and go onwards, to be able to stop band check how to reach the entrance. It would be good if the hotel had an indication that the parking lot would be right on the other side.

I booked the hotel because a friend of mine who I was visiting lives close by. Otherwise I don't think the location has much to offer. The hotel itself has a enough going for it that you can stay there for the night if you don't know what to do. The bar is comfy, I was told the food is good (I didn't eat there myself), and if you haven't been to England or you are not from Europe, you will enjoy staying in something that almost feels like a genuine castle.

I think "not like" is a strong word. I didn't dislike anything, because it's what I expected. But I think if people are used to standard hotel rooms these days, the patina and character that comes with this place might rub them the wrong way. This is not a business hotel, but more like a gem with a reference to a time gone by.

Lovely old building with tons of character, on the bus route so easy to get around. The manager was helpful and accommodating and tried hard to help us. The waiting staff were also mostly friendly and helpful.

The bar staff on Saturday were rude and as there was a wedding on they didn’t want to serve us and tried to close the bar early. I wasn’t told about the wedding when I booked so not given the opportunity to consider booking elsewhere. The wedding completely took over and we couldn’t even get in through the front door at one point. The smell of cannabis was overpowering! There was a very large coach group who were lovely but it made breakfast chaotic and difficult to get a table. The chairs were wet at breakfast due to very heavy rain the night before when the roof leaked the staff were up late mopping up but the chairs were not replaced and there was no warning so some of our party had wet trousers!

Stayed over to visit friends in Bristol on way to Cornwall, and couldn't fault it. We're a couple 45-50 travelling with a dog. The staff were really lovely and made a big fuss of our dog Max. The standard double room was lovely and clean, very big, plenty of space. Bar area is fab. Very clean and modern. Breakfast is great, lots of choice, served in a lovely, light restaurant area. Only gave 4 stars instead of 5 as dogs aren't allowed in restaurant for breakfast (but you can sit in the bar and have breakfast, which is still lovely). Big shout out for the staff though, all lovely and can't do enough for you. Will definitely return!

Nothing, great stay :)

This was a second stay in this hotel, chosen for the fact that it was outside the low emissions zone & had free parking. We booked an executive room which was situated above the main entrance of the hotel. The room was large & well furnished with a desk, sofa & dining area. The windows were full length with quality blackout curtains. Although we were facing a busy main road we did not hear the traffic. The bathroom was large & had a bath with an air-jet function & shower over. All staff encountered were friendly & hard-working. We had breakfast on one morning of our 2 night stay - this was a help-yourself buffet. We did not eat dinner at the hotel.

Some of the decor/furnishings were a little jaded around the hotel & lacked attention to detail (eg the paintwork around the windows). Some of the hot breakfast items showed signs of having been on hotplates for some time.

The check was seamless. I asked if I could leave my bags at the hotel before formal checkin whilst I explored the area and the staff agreed to this without any problem at all. The room was absolutely lovely. The bathroom and shower were good; it was nice that there was a restaurant and bar on site. I had a meal of fish and chips and I could not complain about the service or the quality of the meal. The location was within walking distance of the train station and there was a burger king just across the road which was nice as I had a coffee on the morning I checked out as I didn't book breakfast. It was an overnight stay. There was a really nice outside area where you could sit and have a drink. The general surroundings of the hotel grounds was really pleasant. On the morning of checking I could hear singing and after a short wander through the Reception, saw that there was a church service taking place. AS a Christian this was so nice to see and had I known before, I might have decided to join them before leaving for my train. All in all it was a very pleasant stay and I would definitely stay again.

Only one small grip. There was a toilet brush in the bathroom, thankfully it was clean but not at all pleasant to see in any event. Perhaps these should not be in the rooms...!

Location of the hotel in relation to Bristol City centre is great, on bus routes, but we walked as the weather was fine, free parking so the car was safe, and just outside the congestion zone. Perfect for our need this trip. Staff were friendly and professional. For the price it was unbeatable. Will be interesting to see it once it has been updated in the near future.

The hotel is going to be upgraded in the near future so it would be unfair to criticise the slightly tired nature of the room, it was perfectly clean and comfortable,

A large single room (room 125), old fashioned but clean, quiet and the tv worked. I liked the covered courtyard where I had a warm, eat as much as you want, buffet breakfast. Easy parking in front of the hotel. Around the corner where I walked in the morning there is an interesting cemetery and the blue glass shop where I watched glass objects being made. Although the exterior of the hotel looks faded, inside, the hotel has all you need and is well kept. There was a restaurant and bar (which I did not use). Staff were friendly and if no one was around (it was a quiet day), you could ask and someone would turn up to book you in or take your room number for breakfast.

There was no view out of the window as the windows are high up, but the windows were large so there was outside light. No issue really.
